if the starter relay closes then the issue is with the starter side but if not then the immobilizer is stopping the start signal

The reverse signal (line) is also tied to the immobilizer and so I would check the fuse on panel.

So I replaced the reverse switch on my manual 2001 C4 and go to start it and nothing?

It's probably blown if you didn't disconnect the battery before you started replacing the reverse switch.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I replaced the reverse switch on my manual 2001 C4 and go to start it and nothing? The reverse lights worked but it won't crank now? It powers up (you can hear it) but won't engage the starter? I did unplug the battery for a few minutes hoping it would "reset" but it didn't help. Any thoughts as to what might be happening?

POST 2Original post

I vote for coinsidence....check your battery cables, all your fuses, engjne ground (pass side to body) and then move to the starter relay.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did the battery cables and they are all fine. I checked the ignition fuse and it was good. where is the engine group you speak of as well as the starter relay? Thanks for the help

POST 4Original post

Do you have 12V at the jump point in the engine bay?

POST 6Original post

Starter relay is rear shelf near dme. U need to check all the fuses. If an immobilizer fuse is burt it wont start. if the starter relay closes then the issue is with the starter side but if not then the immobilizer is stopping the start signal

Big question - before you started, did you unplug the negative from the battery? The reverse signal (line) is also tied to the immobilizer and so I would check the fuse on panel. It's probably blown if you didn't disconnect the battery before you started replacing the reverse switch.
