Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Member for awhile.....sold my 08 Cayman S back in May. Seriously looking at a turbo with 17,000 miles......it's certified. Anything I should pay close attention to specific to this year? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

The current issue of Excellence magazine has a buyer's guide on 911 turbo's. To summarize for the 2007, "The 997 used variable-geometry turbochargers with 480 hp and 460 lb ft of torque. An overboost function in conjunction with the optional Sport Chrono plus package increased boost by 2.9 psi, thereby increasing torque to 502 lb ft for ten seconds. The new engine had further advancements in the variocam plus system and oiling system. "One word of caution with the 996s and 997s: If they are equipped with PCCBs, make sure the brakes are in good shape. The alternative is a five figure replacement bill." It looks like the prices range from $61,500-$82,300. The article also cautions about high insurance costs and to be sure the car was properly maintained. Good luck! Dave

POST 4Original post

I looked at Turbos several months back as a possible replacement for the CS. The engines are almost bulletproof, and are dry sumped! Watch out for a lot of smoke when on boost, as with any turbocharged car, to make sure the previous owner allowed some cool down time before stopping after a hard drive. Stay away from PCCB's unless they are in very good condition, but this goes for all Porsche's and look for a good set of tyres if you can as they will cost the earth to replace The turbo is the only Porsche you can get away with having tiptronic in Overall reliability looks to be very good on them, and I would suggest picking one up with a PSE or aftermarket system as the stock car is rather quiet.

True, of course you could always replace them with the normal steel ones.
