Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
Sounds a silly question but does anyone know how to remove the centre console cassette holders on 1999 996 as I wish to fit newer cd holder and cannot see any obvious fixings etc. And the cassette holders rattle over lumps etc!!!! And once removed the best place to buy a cd holder replacement?
Design911 sell both the surround and the cd drawers about £60 together - sometimes they come up on ebay.
I seem to remember its just a tight fit - a firm pull will get the cd holder out.
I removed my centre console altogether - and put in the GT3 delete kit instead.
All clipped in, work your way up from the bottom.
If manual remove gearlever surround then batwing (lowest bit) then tray then the cassette holder. It is much easier to reach in with the tray and batwing out the way to aid the pulling from underneath.
Hope this helps.
Try Terry at German Car Spares down south. Otherwise as said or Flea-bay
Dead easy, there are two lugs on top and two on the bottom. You only need compress the top two to remove it. Use the replacement as a guide as to where the lugs are located (same position as any fitted unit). Put two flat butter knives or similar flat bluntish metal edge into the gap at the points where the lugs are located and press down gently to disengage. Then pull out the unit. Replacement clips straight in. No need to pull or to mask.
As above really (AndewM), but I used a couple of credit cards / supermarket loyalty cards (they are nice and flexible and wont scratch anything)
Just push them in left and right along top edge of cassette holder seam (as advised, just look where new CD holder clips//lugs are)
Then pull using one or more cassette draws and it will release once it is a few mm out.
Personal preference I suppose.
I work on other peoples cars so I tend to be extra careful by masking/covering things. Levering plastic items with tools can damage the edges but then pulling can break lugs.
You have a couple of ways to do it now.
