Not sure if 996 seat uses same switch type as 993 but I recently did a DIY switch clean of the contacts on mine, which were arcing, brought dead seats back to life.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Anyone had an issues with the 3.0amp fuse going and the rear backrest adjuster in the drivers side going? It's blown 3 times over the last 2 years and OPC are saying that it really needs to come in and get fixed. Do you think it needs a new motor/control module?

POST 2Original post

Would be very expensive at OPC. The problem could be as simple as a loose connection or the motor brushes needing to be replaced, but these may not be a serviceable part. :dont know: Ray

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wouldn't this be considered a warranty item? I have the fear that it isn't and also suspect it's around the £400 mark, with no guarantee of fixing the fault. Would be interested to know.

POST 4Original post

Clicking seat and fuse???? These faults may be related. Ok, add a new fuse, if it blows instant that is a short, if it blows after seconds of moving the backrest that will be strain. I am wondering whether there is a twist in the frame putting the motor under too much strain. This could also be the answer to the clicking. Shame you aren't closer to Worcestershire.

POST 5Original post

just wondering if a wires earthing out on the frame when you try move it?

POST 6Original post

Have you tried to access the switch and perhaps take this apart? Not sure if 996 seat uses same switch type as 993 but I recently did a DIY switch clean of the contacts on mine, which were arcing, brought dead seats back to life. Was a major result and only cost time and some spray contact cleaner. Can't imagine brushes will have worn...how long/regualarly is the motor in operation!?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, The motor is very rarely used. I don't believe it's related to the seat clicking. The clicking is definitely mechanical....like a lose screw. The symptom is that it works fine and then when I haven't used it for a while it will move a fraction and then blow....a total of 3 times in the last 2 years. I think I'll need to get this sorted as well (same time as I get the rear brakes done). Cheers.
