Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I tried a couple of universal kit out there, but they either didn't work or switches really didn't match with the interior decor, so I customized a kit with the proper relay and wires, and found a switch, which sits flush with the trim.
Hi guys,
I installed a rain sensor in my 996, so I had no use for the intermittent wiper switch. I started looking into what to replace it with, didn't had alot of option, another power outler? what about a start button??

Now all I gotta do is put the key in, press the button and voila!!
I must admit I was going to do this myself. I did it on my previous car which was an Escort Cosworth Track car.
I have a mate who works for a low volume sport car maker and he makes all of their dash board looms etc. He has some lovely illuminated starter switches. I was going to put one in my car somewhere as I think its a neat idea!!
Would be interested to know in how you get on with the wiring etc.
Interested in where you purchased the rain sensor components, how easy and where did you install the sensor. How easy was it to wire it in, is there a position in the loom?
cheers Ray :bye:
Surely one of the most pointless options ever! I have had a rain sensor in every car I have ever driven. It is located somewhere in the middle of my skull. When I sense that it is raining, a signal is sent to my hand. That moves to the wiper switch, and hey presto, the wipers work and I can see out again. It's magic!
Have you been reading 6speedonline too much?
A guy there has just done the exact same thing...
Engine start button
Edited to say, ooops, that is you, you are him... :thumb:
Hi guys, yes that is me on 6speed.
Im happy to share this mod with you guys since I took me awhile to make it work on my pcar. Most of the time with universal kits, Alarm/Immobiliser will not tolerate these changes, and/or will drain your battery. I made this specifically for the 996/986. I also added the a light trim to give it a oem look, clutch switch is bypassed.
What's nice about the switch, is that it sits flush with the trim, and cap can be removed to be custom painted if you wish.
I really really don't get the whole starter button thing, Jam996 this is not aimed at your mod so please don't take it personally.
A lot of manufacturers have gone this way and have succeeded in making the car starting process more difficult than it was 50 years ago.........
what , please tell me, is the point?
and what is so wrong and difficult with putting a key in and twisting it?
Porsche offer it as a retrofit kit, but it is manufactured by Xanonex in Germany. Cheaper to buy it from them at
www.xanonex.de
I fitted one to my C2, and found it a worthwhile addition, but as Jam996 found out, it makes the wiper delay knob redundant. The original factory rain sensor was sensitivity-adjustable, but not the later retrofit kit.
My friend Tony at Wrightune also stocks and fits them.
