Hi guys, can anyone make an educated or backed up guess as to when we will be able to configure the new 991/911 on the Porsche configurator?
comments appreciated..
The embargo on official information is supposed to end August 24. The official showing of the car will be at the IAA Frankfurt the second week of September. European deliveries are supposed to begin late 2011. So I suppose the configurator may be up and running, at least for the European customers, sometime around the Frankfurt show. Dealers may have order guides sooner. You may want to check w/ your OPC.
Pretty much what Dave said. The Frankfurt show starts September 15. Based on similar time lines for other models, my guess is the 991 should be configurable on the German website two or three weeks after that. Not sure how the UK site will be synced with that though; could be one or two weeks later.
Heard somewhere the release date will be 21 or 24 September but not sure. My local dealer will inform me as soon as the official information release; however, the dealer told me that a lot of people already put their deposit for the quota allocation although there isn't any price list, option list nor production schedule.
At least here in the United States, I think you need to be desperately trendy, incredibly rich, or likely both, to pay a premium over MSRP for any newly introduced Porsche, particularly the non-GT variants. The best deals will be on leftover 997.2s, particularly if there is really high (initial) demand for the 991. Options are typically limited on the new model, if past is prologue, so you end up ordering what Porsche decides to offer rather than what you may really want. Then, affter the first six months of frenzy, the 991s will start rolling out in large numbers and, if the residual pool of customers once the early adopters are done feeding is not huge, the pricing starts to get interesting w/ the inventory on the dealer lots. As Santayana said, those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it.
What does this have to do with the OP's question? lol
I had already responded to the OP. Perhaps you missed it? The second response was to this posting. Perhaps I should only respond to the OP and to no one else?
Per the OP's question the configurator for the new 911 and 911S is now up and running on the Porsche website.
If you read German the configurator is up....
Home - Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG
As is the US configurator.
From the configurator the PCM is an option
hoewever, the Porsche web page said it is standard for all of the 911 models.
kinda strange
At the risk of getting flamed for creating a thread drift of seismic proportions please indulge me.
I was on the configurator the other evening and just started the usual daydream of building ones dream machine. Now we all know that some of the prices for Porsche extras are a little on the high side to put it mildly but have you noticed what they are charging for a light weight battery? Its $1700! Thats over 1000 UK Pounds, or in my part of the world over 6000AED. I find that somewhat OTT especially living in Dubai where the heat means battery and tyre life is pretty much three years.
As a matter of interest what is the weight saving between a light and a standard battery?
Yeah it's very expensive, I believe it is actually a Porsche Motorsport labelled battery, so that adds to the cost as well!
It started out as a GT3 and GT3 RS option, but I believe the battery is available for the the Boxster Spyder and Cayman R at the same price. I don't remember the weight differential, but someone here will know.
3D mode is very cool! It's the best configurator out there right now.
I don't know. The resolution is off on my screen. Maybe a browser issue. But now you have to view the build in 3D to see all the options rendered. Still an improvement, I guess, as some never displayed on the old configurator.
