I was in my local Porsche dealer yesterday and saw some Porsche suits walking around pointing at various Porsche logos in the building. When they left, I asked an employee what was going on? He told me that they were told to begin removing all Porsche Crests from the building, Posters, signs, floor mats and even the painted crest on the garage floor. It appears that Porsche will no longer be using the Porsche Stuttgart Crest. In fact if you read this months Panorama you will see that the logo on the hoods and steering wheels of the new 991 are taped over and the hood logo appears to be square in shape. I hope I have received bad info on this; however it seems that the new company wants the Audi, VW and Porsche Logos to be more uniform.
I guess the rumor of a VW variant of the 911 is not that far off!
It's corporate id. The crest is the image of the brand. It should never be walked on, driven on, or placed in areas porsche does not want. Like every other corporate company they want everything to be the same so no matter that dealer you go to you get the same experience. Next time you are in a dealer that is up to date with ID you will notice, black hat/coat rack, black leather square couches, watch catch at the front door, "porsche" fabric chairs, glass tops with stainless bottom desk(no clutter on desk), no paper signs, cars in a "race car" start. Every captured test vehicle has the badges covered. Dont be scared there will be the crest till the day the last car is made.
Porsche is very particular on where the crest may be used. That's why you'll never see it on floor mats. Stepping on the crest is a big no-no.
There was a dealer close to me that had to remove a very fancy crest that was inlaid (not sure of the term) into the concrete entrance of the dealership after a similar visit from Porsche Germany...
I seriously doubt we'll see the logo change on the cars however.
I call BS.. Every Porsche employee will quit their job before they abandon their traditions.
It's like the Yankees removing their pinstripes! Itll never happen.
(Yes I'm a Yankee fan) =D
Great answer. Car manufacturers, like most businesses, do change their logos over time, but the Porsche crest is one of the few that has remained virtually unchanged since its introduction in the early 1950s. I can't imagine it ever changing, save perhaps for a few very minor nips and tucks.
