Suspected cause

I suspect the glass is the result of a prior windshield that broke, vandalism maybe, and some of the chards got into the ductwork through the defoster registers, that's my guess anyway.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Today was my first DIY on my Boxster, I changed ignition switch... Easy job... but my back hurts after staying that long in un-natural position.. Everything works.. however: When I turn off the engine and get the key off, my board is still lighted.. I can see mileage, MPH and clock. If I lock the car it goes dark.. is this normal?.. I'm not sure it was the same before. Also when taking Airduct out I noticed that it had small pieces of glass inside.... well some pieces of glass fell on my face. Anyone has any idea where it came from? Thanks Sasha

POST 2Original post

lights staying on is normal. Mine stay on for several minutes. No idea about the glass.

POST 3Original post

Light operation is normal. You may not have seen it before because the ignition switch was bad - that's the funny thing about making such fixes. It may not have seemed faulty before and now you're seeing new things. I suspect the glass is the result of a prior windshield that broke, vandalism maybe, and some of the chards got into the ductwork through the defoster registers, that's my guess anyway. Cheers!
