Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Lots of questions all lumped into one here so bear with me please. Recently I picked up a 6 speed 2001 Carrera C2 Coupe. Engine number m96/0466114753 118K miles and the car drives solid. Based on this engine ID, what IMS should I expect to find in the car? Understanding that there is a fair amount of variance in assembly. Secondly, my mechanic, who I trust with all my german cars BMW and Benz primarily also works on porsches, but he cant get the LN or your parts through his supplier. Hes happy to have me bring in parts and he'll do the install. What special tools may he not have available to do my IMS replacement? hes done primarily IMS engine rebuilds after failure, but hes says hes never done a preventative IMS bearing replacement. My assumption is that I need a single row LNE solution or the Pelican Parts upgrade which covers both. I also assume based on engine ID that I already have the upgraded IMS cover. Many thanks in advance. __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here:

Everything you need is right here tools and bearing kits: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/0905/POR_0905_ENGCAM_pg4.htm According to your engine number you need the dual row, but you're so close to the cusp I would recommend this follow up check. A quick check: Have your mechanic scan the DME and if the car has DME 7.8 it needs a single row bearing. If it has DME 7.2 it SHOULD take the dual row. This information is found in the DME "Vehicle Data" Section. If it is possible to use the IMS Solution DOIT!! I noticed that the cars run smoother and feel more solid during acceleration after installing that kit. - Casey

At 118k miles if it hans't exploded, it's not going to explode now. Dont waste your money. I'll take my chances and mine is now at 80k miles.
