A lot of people forget these when buying used skirts, but the OE side skirts have clamps that mount underneath the car on the pinch weld line in addition to mounting at the front rear fender corners.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Diff aftermarket GT3 sideskirts, I just got them out of the box 15 minutes ago, already small cracks in gel coat but in areas that are hidden, Have a feeling this will be a ftuture issue as these skirts are paper thin. Have zero resin to re-inforce the fiberglass to make them stronger. The black gelcoating were the prep and paint would happen sems too thin and no holes drilled to attach hardware to car. All feedback welcomed since I have never really dealt with fiberglass like this...

POST 3Original post

Anytime I see a part for sale, I wonder, why are they selling. Here, the answer is rather clear, and I am assuming this is a used part of course since brand new this would be unacceptable. If return is not possible, or the parts are in fact as they were described, then you can go to autozone or such, and buy fiberglass kits to reinforce them. I had pretty good success repairing a cracked belly pan on a motorcycle that way.

POST 4Original post

I bought similar for my Boxster . They were used but in good condition but I did have to repair a few spots . I asked my painter to spray stone guard across the exposed bottom portion coming halfway up the visible portion of the covers . The stone guard adds some strength and resistance to stone chips . Drilling the bottom mounting holes is no big deal . If you don't have the skill set to pull it off talk with your local body shop .

Let me guess - they didn't come with the necessary hardware to mount to the car? Personally I would return them and buy the OE set that is made of ABS plastic. The factory OE side skirts are designed with the necessary mounting holes and come with the hardware. A lot of people forget these when buying used skirts, but the OE side skirts have clamps that mount underneath the car on the pinch weld line in addition to mounting at the front rear fender corners. I bought mine used for about $400 for the pair and bought the hardware from Porsche. I also painted it myself with color matched base and clear coats. Matched perfectly. The total to do the job was about $600.
