Just as the tltle says, yesterday I test drove a Carrera GTS.

The Ring is the gold standard for this very reason, it offers a much more complete venue the includes curves and long straights that allows full use of available HP.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just as the tltle says, yesterday I test drove a Carrera GTS. I brought my Cayenne into the dealer yesterday to get the new tags put on and one of the sales guys handed me a set of keys to test drive a GTS they just got in (sport exhaust, limited slip rear diff, sport suspension, PDK and Sports Chrono). The GTS was amazing, most likely my next Porsche. Sticker was $120,000. Power was nice handling was tight felt completely different from my Cayman. Definitely was able to pickup immediately the different characteristics of the rear engine platform vs the mid engine platform. I definitely like both platforms not one more than the other just different.

By all accounts the GTS is one of the finest 911 variants offered by Porsche. I agree that both platforms have something to offer. The 911 is an extraordinarily capable sports car.
Honestly, for $120k, my choice would prob. be a base GT3. It has been my experience that unless you bump up h.p. by at least 30-40h.p., performance increase is hard to notice. 40 h.p. is about 10% of a GT3's h.p., you would notice that.
Porsche has a habit of slowly massaging up engine h.p./torque (10-15 h.p.) on subsequent models and avoiding any major "leaves last year in the dust" power increases. Marketing at it's best.
I like buying performance upgrades = exhaust/flash/tires and wheels.
Alcantera cup holders = not so much. Missed a base GT3 last year, had a MSRP of $112k.

I recently drove a Carrera, S, 4S, and GTS at the Porsche World Roadshow. The GTS was VERY impressive and after her lap behind the wheel, my wife looked over at me and said "This one is better!"
Is it worth the extra money? I remain unsure about that but I am convinced that you do indeed get something for the money you spend.
I believe a Cayman R has been track timed as faster than a GTS. My recollection is that the R is faster than any non-GT, naturally-aspirated 911.
You may want to look up some threads already posted about the fun of having center-lock wheels.
FWIW.

The Cayman R was faster than the GTS at Hockenheim, a course that favors the Cayman over the 911, since the 911 cannot take advantage of the power difference at that track. The Ring is the gold standard for this very reason, it offers a much more complete venue the includes curves and long straights that allows full use of available HP. If you want to continue to believe that any other 911 except the GT3 is just a luxo GT don't test drive the GTS.
The GTS is really nice. It seems to be a better value than a comparable S with similar options. I agree with DaveC, comparing a Cayman R to a GTS on a limited track doesn’t make sense. Might as well compare an Audi A4 2.0T to an A6 3.2 on the same track.
IMO it's absolutely worth the money if you want a more defined version of the 911, but the GT3 range is either too $$$ or too tight. With the PowerKit, PSE & WB, it's the PERFECT RWD Carrera.
If you want more of a sporty cruiser, then opt for the C2/C2S and get the interior options that makes it look more pleasing to your eye. I'm not knocking that approach, but the GTS is the sportiest Carrera available without going the GT3 route.
Yeah, it does and I don't really like that. I love the incredible braking and acceleration do to favorable weight transfer for both, but I'm just not a lover of rear engine cars in corner. No confidence. Everytime I push the CS on a back road, I'm more impressed with it....and I've had it 2 years now and about 25K miles.
I had a 911 once. It was only an SC, but it told me what I needed to know about throwing the car around. I did Porsche Experience too and...oh yeah, I like 911s, but I like Caymans more.
