It needs to be replaced by a user configurable virtual gauge, at which point the silly center chronograph can go.
Leading evidence: 'Replace by a user configurable virtual gauge, at' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Suggestion
Personally I think it's a refreshing change but I can see how it won't appeal to everyone.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
Notice no parking brake (electronic now) and going back to the cool font for the gauges. Not crazy about how the gauges are deep set in all that plastic nonsense.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
The interior makes the car look "heavier", more Panamera-like.
Definitely looks more luxurious, not sure if that's a good thing or not.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
Thanks for finding these. Somethings I like others I'm unsure of. Look forward to seeing more.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
Cool. Thanks for sharing. Personally I think it's a refreshing change but I can see how it won't appeal to everyone.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
Good find. I really don't like the vents on the side of the SC dial. Also for a manual don't you think the position of the shifter would be uncomfortable. Maybe someone with a carerra GT can comment on the position for driving. I like the more upscale look but the simplicity and focus of the current gen interior is lost.
Of course we can't be sure that's a PORSCHE because they have tape over the steering wheel badge
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
Good catch!
I found this picture yesterday and it looks legit to me, because it shares the basic design.
But with that high center console, looks like space could be an issue with taller drivers? And the higher position of the shift knob looks strange on the first look. My second thoughts are, that it could be an advantage because xou don't have to reach that far. But that's just a guess.
Still wondering about the gauges in the boxster, though. 5?
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
Definitely similar to a Panamera. I think automatic transmission shifters look awful regardless of where you put them. I really don't see why they just don't do away with them. It's all electronic anyway.
I'm not terribly fond of the current interior but it's functional. Is that wheel turned 180 degrees? Hope so.
Not sure about the high center console either. Hope the radio knobs aren't that low on a manual transmission car. That could get annoying.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
+1
I would prefer to keep a more functional, basic-but-tough look.
Panamera looks good from the inside, but IMHO this design is not so well-suited to smaller sportier models.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
Hmm... IMHO looks a tad too cluttered. But perhaps this is the very high-spec and full-optioned look?
Porsches are supposed to be minimalist functionalists (if there's such a word)
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
Cabin spaced reduced.
Shifter in non optimal position for manual.
Gaps around buttons will collect dirt, dust and dandruff.
Access to buttons now more blocked by shifter.
Larger console body must now add more weight.
Less space LHS owing to very bulky construction on door panel.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
I like the gauges and that is about all. The new gauges show oil pressure and the analog speedo can be read without a magnifying glass. Otherwise, the new interior looks like it will crowd the driver and passenger more.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
Love where they moved the shifter, higher and closer to the wheel, big benefit for manual cars. wish they would have shown a full tach, I'd love to know if they've increased the rev limiter again.
On a side note and not intended to offend anyone but I don't understand why anyone gets gray interiors. They look dated before they're even out and drab.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
I *think* the same speedo will be used in all 911s (if not Caymans and Boxsters), and the 200 mph scale would be needed for the 911 Turbos, GT2's, GT3's, etc.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
Does look like it would be hard to manipulate the radio controls, etc. - of course, you will probably be able to order the MF steering wheel for extra $$ to handle a lot of those tasks. I'd be willing to bet that the 981's dash will still be a 3 bin affair, and won't have an oil pressure gauge.
At least they still have the hide-away cup holders!
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
After taking a second look...you know what....that new interior and the center console in particular gonna take a bit of getting used to....I'm sure I will.....in time.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
I'm definitely hoping they do not go for the silly electronic parking brake.
For me a sports car is all about connection with the mechanicals - and that means a
manual
transmission with a foot-operated
clutch
and a mechanical parking brake that I can apply at any time, electro-nannies be damned.
I'm pretty strict that way - the day Porsche goes PDK only is the day Porsche gets crossed off my consideration list.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
I actually like the overall look. Not too concerned about the buttons, I'm sure that's a touch screen and you would do most things with the radio using that.
Now the downsides- the gauge faces and font are identical to my 1998 Honda. They were considered boring or worse then, need to do much better. It's time for the analog speedo to go, does anyone ever look at that thing? It needs to be replaced by a user configurable virtual gauge, at which point the silly center chronograph can go.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
Pretty sure that is the 911 interior not the Cayman/Boxster.
Only photo I have seen of the Cayman/Boxster interior is this shot from EVO:

New 911
See AutoCar this morning!!!
To quote:
"The new 911, codename 991, is only the third all new design in the car’s incomparable 48 year history. The first of the three most critical departures between it and its forebears is that this is the first 911 to be built chiefly from aluminium"

Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
is it just me or does this look boxy and old.
the console reminds of of a old nissan sunny.
i sure hope this is all disguised stuff.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
they are using electronic steering instead of hydrolic ?
i have to say this is massively dissapointting, maybe i am a bit unfair putting down a system that i don't fully understand, but i've always thought these steering belong to a little japanese city cars and not on a sports car with 50 years history.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
I am pretty sure this shows an early 991 prototype. That it is a coupé is clear from the roof that is visible at the top. Also, this pic was first published several months ago, when there weren't even any Cayman exterior shots around.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
By the time I get used to
this
911's interior I'll be too old to care about driving anything but a scooter!
This luxo sedan interior is not the direction I'd be taking a sports car, and it will be very interesting to see what Porsche does w/ the GT3 if this photo does indeed represent the new 911 interior.
Re: What the interior of the 2013 Cayman will look like!
OK, since these photos are actually of a 911 interior and not a Cayman/Boxster, I've moved the thread to the 911 forum and renamed it.
