Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 2Original post

Hi Dave, welcome. I think we'd have to know a bit more about the car to say if it's a possible deal or not.. it's an '08, how many miles? Have you seen and heard it run? Any collision history? Paint/interior condition? Outfitted with? Porsche offers a basic car, the person ordering it decides how much they want to spend on things that would come with a normal car.. and they charge a fortune for those things. It's not unusual for a $70,000 MSRP Porsche to be priced with accessories/options at over $100,000. That makes a difference on resale values. Is there any chance of getting the car to a Porsche shop that could look it over for you and explain what the expenses to make it whole might be? Porsches are expensive new. As they age - especially if there are "issues" their value can drop significantly - but the repair prices never drop with that decrease in value. An inexpensive German luxury/sports car can end up being the most expensive car you'll ever own. I'd want the shop to pay attention to the engine. The '08 models aren't awful, but the engines do have a small possibility of a flaw that basically trashes the engine. A new or rebuilt engine far exceeds the value of the car - even used - an engine will probably be over $5,000. A new engine from Porsche - $15-20,000 before installation. The automatic transmissions aren't known to be troublesome - so those can be found used rather inexpensively (for a Porsche) at around $2,000-5,000 (depending on miles mostly.) So more info and perhaps we can offer some useful suggestions.. And welcome to Planet-9, the Friendly Porsche Forum for Aspiring Porsche Owners!

BTW - I'm quite impressed you found the correct place to ask this question - that rarely happens with a 1st posting of this type.. I think you'll do well here.
