File this under Dumb and Dumber! I disconnected the battery in my 2008 RS60
Boxster
and without thinking, closed the frunk! Naturally, the key fob and latch will not open the frunk. What do I do?
Thanks
I believe you’ll have to pull the front driver’s side wheel liner and pull a cable.
Good luck!
I was hoping for an easier way. What a terrible design by Porsche.
Don't beat yourself up,
@pagoda69
-- I did the same thing a few weeks ago. It's a rite of passage for P-car owners!
Heck, usually I stuff a towel by the frunk latch so I know the frunk lid won't accidentally close and lock me out. However, this was a case where I hadn't tightened down the battery lead (I was still working on the car) and the car was dead. It happens.
There is a way to apply power (read the manual) to a special connector to the fuse box, but that didn't work for me -- even when supplying 12V from a motorcycle battery.
It isn't that bad, to be quite honest. Jack up the front left corner, remove the left front wheel, and remove the wheel liner. Once you've done it, you'll know how to access this cable lickety-split. Then, you'll see a tiny cable that you gently pull with pliers (try not to damage it). Job done.
Finally - IMHO, it's a good idea to know how to do this if you're going to clean your radiators at some point. Mine were a mess!
Thanks for the advice. I should have known better. I've owned so many Porsches. I wasn't paying attention.
I never had any luck applying power to the fuse box, but I learned that applying 12VDC to the cigarette lighter allow you to open the frunk.
Basically, find any 12VDC device that you can plug into the lighter socket, cut off the device (lamp, charger, etc.,) and connect the cables to a 12VDC source, I have used jumping cables connected to another vehicle and connected to the small cables of the plug that goes to the lighter socket.
I learned this on my 987CS and use it a couple of times on my buddy's '07
911
and works every time
Many thanks. Will this still work with a disconnected battery?

Will give it a try
Thanks
One issue with the cable release - this can be quite difficult if like me - the locking key for the locking wheel lug is in the compartment
Porsche
provided for it - in the Frunk under the battery compartment (what
were
they thinking department? sometime I'll explain why it all makes logical sense in a Germanic sort of way..)
BTW - think I should make a sticky of this thread? Let me know via PM.. it's apples to oranges the most asked question in the 987 world..
I learned about the cigarette lighter on my 987 and use this trick as well on a 997, on these cars the lighter socket is 'live'
Use the cigarette lighter it is rated at 10 amps. the 12v connector in the passenger wheel well is only 3 amps, it is great for trickle chargers, cell phones, laptops etc.
If you worry that this might happen to you, the
next
time you or someone else removes the left front wheel, you cant try to pull the string through and tie it off some where it’s reachable within the wheel well.
