Keeping up on the oil changes after each track day and looking for metal debris in the gearbox and front diff oil will help you see the problem coming before it becomes an issue.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 2Original post

I am wondering if there are strengthening mods in the gearbox at that horsepower. I was told that the stock box could do 600..That HP is kind of right at the limit of what I would say is reliable. Keeping up on the oil changes after each track day and looking for metal debris in the gearbox and front diff oil will help you see the problem coming before it becomes an issue. The engine oil consumption is the indicator of engine health on a vehicle like that. Without a doubt I would recommend a pre-purchase inspection that performed a leak down and compression test on all cylinders. The shop I worked at upgraded a 996 to 600 HP and that car still drives around today with the stock gearbox and bottom end, but was responsibly driven and enjoyed. - Casey

POST 3Original post

I wouldn't worry about it. Unless the car has been heavily dragged raced it should be fine. That is not even beginning to be stressed on either the engine or gearbox. In the 996tt world you are still in bolt on mods power levels. Regards, Matt Monson Guard Trandmission LLC.
