Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

On the second photo you'll see I used the latch as the negative but I found out the other day that the bolt for the airbox is the designated spot.
Leading evidence: 'Use latch as the negative' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect /' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Some get lucky and disconnecting / reconnecting the battery works.

Whilst you're in there, I would also really, REALLY recommend replacing the barrel attachment gubbins because trust me, when they fail and your car goes into sleep mode, you have to take quite drastic action sometimes :frustrated:

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all.
I have a horrible feeling that two separate problems have occurred at the same time to cause mayhem. Its freezing cold here in Northumberland and I tried to open the 996 a couple of days ago only to discover that the battery was flat. I decided to postpone tackling this for a day or so.
Today I have tried open the drivers door only to discover that the handle won't do anything. It moves up and down ok but won't unlatch the door. Obviously the central locking won't work as the battery is flat.
So I now have a car that I can't open as the door handle looks to have failed and I can't get into the front bonnet as the battery is flat. Its a 2003 996 C4 with the electric trunk release.
I know earlier cars have an emergency cable under the wheel arch but I don't think later cars have this.
Has anyone got any good ideas as to how on earth I can get inside?
Thanks for that but it gets worse...
Guess where the locking wheel nut key is? Yep, inside the cabin - which is locked...
However I have also seen mentioned another emergency release cable, this time for the rear bonnet and located under the rear light cluster. Does anyone know if the later (996.2) cars have this?
And I'm in!
Found the release cable under the tail light which opened the rear cover and allowed me to connect a power pack, open the doors and then jump start the car.
It looks like the driver's door handle has failed but I'll tackle that over the next few days.
The main thing is I managed to actually get into the car.
Thanks for your help everyone - much appreciated.
Good stuff
The door handle failing is quite common - there's a little black clip that should hold the rod but you'll find it's popped off. This seems a decent thread:

Should be easy fix.

Some get lucky and disconnecting / reconnecting the battery works. I didn't.
Porsche will only sell you it all as part of the inner door lock assembly, which is laughably expensive. I found a cheaper solution:

Turns out mine hadn't actually failed it was just the indy garage not having put my car back together properly, which was nice of them
:what: :x
