yesterday night my
boxster
2.7 loose all the coolant from that hanging hose of the reservoir underneath . recovery guy said probably is the thermostat . also was some leak on the top where you add coolant. any idea , thanks
is coming from the right side
Did you try refilling to see how much it lost?
Did ot overheat? What did the guage say?
Did it quit running?
Run smooth as usually , not overheating . When I put just 0.5 liters loose from the same place again
. Is just saying check coolant
Hi @Afcapel - Welcome to P9. First off, please be sure to introduce yourself in the new members part of the forums with photos. It is a really strong tradition to do so here, before asking fellow members for tech help.
A few thoughts:
It sounds like you're losing coolant, but nothing catastrophic that would immediately damage your car. Our 987s take a TON of coolant in order to cool the coolant at the front radiators, and then pipe it to/from our mid-body engines. This means, you're likely losing enough to be able to easily spot the leak -- wherever it is.
The odds of two different leaks seem pretty minimal - and it's all probably dripping from the same place. My gut says that it's the reservoir that has cracked and is dripping down. I'd also consider replacing the caps where you add coolant (not terribly expensive) -- and inspect them thoroughly for the crustiness of dried coolant.
If you want a definitive answer, add the correct UV dye (do a search - I wrote a whole bunch about this a few months ago) and do a search with a UV light. Both are ridiculously expensive these days. You're losing enough where you should be able to quickly track the leak down and get it sorted. Once you find the leak, replace the busted part and do a vacuum refill of the coolant.
Yeah, I know it's a PITA -- but coolant is one of the vital key lifebloods of our P-cars and you don't want to overheat. I'd get this corrected pretty quickly as that's quite a bit of fluid loss.
Let us know how you get on with this. Cheering you on here.
Maybe start with a new cap, they have been known to leak when they're old, cheap and easy elimination. As for the rest? All the bottom shrouds off, run it to temperature, park it, put white paper under it after you visually check all the hoses and junctions. As for the thermostat? Try running the heat (yeah I know) but do it, check inside the cabin to make sure you don't have a heater core leak and observe whether changing the thermostat position has an effect.
As said, if you are losing from overflow it is often a bad Cao, or running just a bit hot (or overfilled).
Do you a a vacuum kit to fill the system?
Try new caps.
Try vacuum filling.
After it burps, check level.
Watch guage, as it could be a failing thermostat or pump.
