As the title suggests, I will be leaving my car in the garage for a few months to try save some money. Work and school are well within walking distance and most of my money goes towards fuel for 3-5 hour joyrides every other day. I am not going away or anything, so I can periodically take it for a short ride to keep the engine healthy. I wouldn't leave it for too long, most likely around 3-4 months.
It is a 2008 Cayman S.
I've got two questions about this:
Is there anything I should do to the car before leaving it? (It had a full 80,000km (49.5k miles) service 1 month / 1500km ago)
How often should I take it for a drive to keep everything healthy, and anything in particular I should do on the drive?
Hyper inflate tires to prevent flat spotting, leave the frunk unlatched, fill the tank, add stabil and for me put the NOCO maintainer on the battery and cover it. Unfortunately, this is what's going to happen to mine for July & August but it's due to personal business which in the long run will profit me and simplify my life; I'll drive it when I get back but anyhow that's my usual list.
Yup...what Boris said..the longest for me is around 2.5 months in which I did nothing
Depends on the moisture level / odor, I may also place a box of baking soda or used coffee grind in the car.
The season will be late autumn/early winter. It won't get below 6-8 degree celcius during this time.
As I mentioned, I am not going away and can still drive the car and get it up to temp every now and then, just not too often. I am doing this to save some money, and the biggest money saver is to not have to replace tons of parts from leaving it too long.
I have some Porsche Club events booked for roughly every fortnight, is this a long enough break to warrant doing anything?
If you're going to drive it every 2 weeks I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe throw a battery maintainer on it just because it's just a pain in the *** if the battery goes flat.
If you're going to park it for a few months additional things you can do but aren't critical are gas tank full and oil change if it's soon be becoming due. If there are rodents in your garage this will be the biggest thing you have to fight.
I have 2 older cars I park for 3-4 months every year. All I do is the maintainer.
If you are driving every 2 weeks you probably don't need to do anything.
Does it reliability start at 2 weeks, then. Don't bother with the maintainer.
If you pup the frunk for safety, do pull the light.
