Since my mechanic errantly replaced the miscroswitch and charged me to replace a part that wasnt broken, he replaced the hook at no cost.

I replaced the micro switch and its still doing it.

Changed the plastic cover, seemed to work, but then it didn't.

Also try the operation from the side door locking and make sure that the top folds once at the rear as it closes by running your hand along the fold during the operation.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

That,s what I did and it has worked ok for me since I added the grease.
When I put the top up, the latch above the rear view mirror intermittently doesnt make contact, and the latching mechanism will cycle repeatedly unless I let go of the button.
As Im sure you know if youre still reading this, the problem is that since the contact isnt closing, the light on the dashboard stays on, and the rear windows cannot he closed.
I replaced the micro switch and its still doing it. Has anyone been through this, and if so what was the culprit?
Yep. Probably the plastic part that fits over the hook. I think someone had a DIY here on RL where you could get a new plastic cover, cut it slightly, and glue it on. This would avoid having to take the entire mechanism apart.
It might be the plastic cover on the hook. Mine did the same. Changed the plastic cover, seemed to work, but then it didn't. I was going to do the microswitch, but apparently it didn't work for you...bummer. Mine is still intermittent, but has been working perfectly all summer. I've yet to figure out the root cause. I'd be interested to hear if you come up with anything. For now, I keep a small screwdriver to manually trip the microswitch as the latch closes. Works every time.
Check the plastic cover as other posters suggest. Then put a dab of grease in the center acceptance slot and also the side slots . That,s what I did and it has worked ok for me since I added the grease. Also try the operation from the side door locking and make sure that the top folds once at the rear as it closes by running your hand along the fold during the operation. Also check you have a fully charged good battery. Good luck.
Thanks for the suggestions. Still havent had time to get it back to my mechanic, and Im just not a DIYer. Ill let you know the outcome once I get it resolved.
Mine had same issue. Easy fix - cut a small piece of velcro (use soft part of velcro not loop side) over the tip of catch. I did mine two years ago and still works like a charm. I still have the plactic cover I bought to replace mine and don't see any reason to. Hope this works for you too.
thank you for this. I will do the same thing when I get home. I wasted $150 having the micro switch replaced. That sucks.
But yeah, I found that if I push up hard on the catch prong just as it finishes its cycle, the cycle completes successfully. So I can see how the Velcro will ensure a solid contact is made internally.

That usually solves the contact problem. I've had the same with my auto-top convertibles.
so, it turned out that the plastic hook is a replaceable part. Since my mechanic errantly replaced the miscroswitch and charged me to replace a part that wasnt broken, he replaced the hook at no cost. Picture below, and now it works perfectly.
