My review
Product: LidLiners
Website: lidliner.com/collections/porsche-lid-liners
Price: $229
Part number: SKU FS997/RS987
Reason:
A coupe weeks ago I was going to our cars and coffee meet and hit a large bump in road and some of my detailing spray hit the underside of the hood. At first I though it was a suspension knock but yeah found all of the stuff I put into the frunk all over the place, and a black mark where the spray bottle had hit the underside of the hood. A quick google search and found that LidLiners makes an protector for the underside of the hood of Porsches. A week later the hood protector arrived!
Benefits:
Simple, it protects the underside of the hood from stuff banging up against it. This really cleans up the underside of the hood and totally looks OEM. Also when shopping it looks less like I am put my stuff in the wrong place because it has a proper compartment appearance and not a unfinished hood.
Includes:
Lid & 10 fasteners
Install:
Took five minutes, maybe. Just align the liner against the hood and press the fasteners into the holes.
Opinion:
I am actually surprised that these did not come from Porsche. It is very strong and has some small foam to protect the hood from rubbing between the lid and painted surface. I will be getting one of these for any future P cars.
Same thing? $20 cheaper from
Suncoast
but they do tend to get you on the shipping.

Oooooohhhh Oooooohhhhh - good thing my birthday is coming up, yet another idea for spousal unit and son.. loving how it looks especially against the best color..
BTW - the tatty look of your plastic bits there - that can be fixed to look like new (maybe better) with a ceramic coat treatment. I did mine with the Ceracoat treatment - turned out just great. Clean them carefully first - it's actually good if they look a bit dry - that means they're porous and will suck in the coating bonding it to the plastic. Did the bit under the wipers/cowl - and it has stayed looking brand new for over 2 years, I haven't touched it since I did it. Great stuff that ceramic..
Hi gang,
I've been meaning to chime in about the LidLiners this past month. I've been traveling (in my
BMW
E30 with snow
tires
), and am finally back in town. Great review,
@walkert
- You pretty much summed it up!
Although I'm heavily biased*** (
see footnote at the bottom
), as soon as you buy your Boxster or 911, GET THESE as a set for the frunk and the trunk.
IMHO, these are a "Must Buy." You will thank me later.
Many years ago, when I still had my 987.1S, I was a dumb-&*% and slammed the trunk shut on an upright bottle of champagne. (First world problems, I know!) Well, I'm lucky that the dent didn't transfer through the surface of the trunk -- but it left an ugly and nasty scar internally on a supporting brace and always bothered me. Plus, I throw all sorts of things in the trunk and frunk -- and was getting kind of tired of putting a blanket on top to try and cushion any blow.
Fast forward a few years to my 981 3.8L Outlaw, which is kind of a show car. In addition to sending the door cards down to Pedro, this was quickly one of the first things I ordered. Total no brainer and I knew that I could finally close both the frunk and trunk without worries. I think I rubbed all the surfaces to be hidden with some "QuickWax" first, and then installed them. Easy peasy!
Well, fast forward again to last month when I was planning on driving "Cherry" - my 987.2 with 257K miles on it about 5K miles to go film the solar eclipse. This meant, I was going to be opening/closing both the frunk and trunk a great deal, notably my luggage and Food Biker filming equipment. As both frunk and trunk lids were pristine internally, I just didn't want to take a chance at this point. I got in touch with Jim again at LidLiners, and got another set -- Jim couldn't be nicer.
Talking with Jim, he has generously passed on to me for my P9 family here two really cool coupon codes (use either one of them, whichever works out best for you in your shopping car as you can't stack them) to help with the costs:
RF22
for 10% off
or
FS22
for FREE SHIPPING
Tell Jim "Food Biker" from Planet-9 sent you; he'll get you quickly squared away!
BTW - One thing that I noticed is that the 987 frunk lid will NOT protect the passenger rear corner in a 987.2/997.2, as the oil/coolant location has been moved. However, that's a small area and isn't a big deal. They just make one model for the 997/987 and understandably so. FWIW, I did a quick home brew to cover that corner by reusing some black and flexible plastic that was headed for the bin (from a torn up undercarriage skid plate) and affixed it to the rest of the LidLiner with 3M VHB tape. Job done!

Minor disclaimer here, which admittedly wouldn't have affected my purchase one bit. As I do
Food Biker
and
Road Feast
, Jim generously offered me a discount on a set in promotional consideration for my show and for spreading the word to the P-car community. Meanwhile, rest-assured, I would have happily paid full price all over again for the full set! FWIW, I believe in his product and rarely take on sponsorships unless an item is really special. Yes, Porsche should have included these from the factory. Enjoy.
