Suggestion

You can do about 2 engine rebuilds with one tube so you will have loads left over just doing the sump, I clean the mating surfaces with brake cleaner and scotchbrite (or a kitchen scourer).

You only need a thin bead (2mm ish), but properly clean both surfaces with the flat edge of a Stanley blade first.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all. Planing on removing the sump pan in a couple of days and was trying to find out the Loctite 5900 sealant quantity for when I replace it. I can see that it comes in a 50 ml tube size but is this enough to complete the job or am I going to need more? Regards Andrew

POST 2Original post

They sell it in an applicator especially for this job and that's only 50ml. You only need a thin bead (2mm ish), but properly clean both surfaces with the flat edge of a Stanley blade first. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401279715799 I left mine overnight to cure, before re-filling with oil.

POST 3Original post

You can do about 2 engine rebuilds with one tube so you will have loads left over just doing the sump, I clean the mating surfaces with brake cleaner and scotchbrite (or a kitchen scourer). Remember not to put too much on or the squeezed off inner bits can fall off and clog a bearing oil feed. It starts to cure within around 15 minutes so once applied make sure you torque up the bolts.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys for the info, just another quick one, what is the torque setting? Thanks again Andrew
