Tire choice in colorado Occasional snow daily driver.

Does anyone have experience with continental all season Tires CONTINENTAL ​ EXTREME CONTACT DWS06 PLUS ​ 235 /40 R18 95Y XL BSW​

I have lots of experience with those tires on other cars, and have loved them for occasional snow situation (I live in the Northeast). I have read that others recommend these tires for these cars as well... I plan to use them as well. Keep in mind, the Boxster/Cayman is a RWD and you need to know how to drive ANY car properly in the snow, but more-so a RWD. If you're good there, then I expect you'd be fine with these tires.

I just replaced my Pilot SuperSports with the Conti 's. For my driving needs they are perfect, in Maryland. I used to swap to winter tires. Last year I did not and I got stuck in 1/2" of hard snow with The Michelins. I got tired of swapping. No snow use yet but in the dry, rain etc. they are quiet, and with my driving style exactly what I was looking for. I am an old guy now and drive pretty cautiously while maintaining speed and smoothness. Just my 2 cents worth!

Thank you both. For the help. I had racing type Michelin s. Took it out once last year up to our Nordic area. Was a sunny day. But some packed roads at elevation. Thought I was going to die. Had to idle up a couple places. So all season tread will be a big improvement. Even though I don’t really drive it on snowy days. But at least I’ll be able to move if situation arrives. Thank you

As someone who grew up in the car business, where the annual drop was over 100" driving a variety of vehicles there are other considerations. The snow pack between the wheel and fender liner on a car so low to the ground with designed tight clearances can reach such a considerable density it affects the steering. The car itself can easily bottom out due to similar action. If that causes it to slide into a snow bank, it's not going anywhere and damage is likely at the very least cosmetic. If it's a Boxster , the top doesn't love the conditions or road salt either. It's just not a great winter car in any sort of snow depth, and NY salted more than Morton's which once proliferated is not ever reversible. That's why we bought and drove winter rats.

Love the contis. The DWS is better in snow than my Michelins 4SAS I have on now for the winter. But I don’t drive it in the snow and rain.

I don't think you'll find any posts here that criticize the DWS-06 tires from people who've used them. Other tires will do one of the things the DWS does -- better than the DWS, but there isn't another tire I know of that does ALL of the things the DWS does better than a DWS. They also wear well and are comfortable riding and quiet. They're simply good.

Thanks. I have them now. Just rain in western slope today. I don’t choose this car in real winter days. But occasionally you get a dusting or some slippery area they will be nice to have. My old ones were frightening in the slightest of slickness !!!

I kind of went a different route. I got a cheap set of Boxster 17s and put some 'all weather' tires on them. In my case some CrossClimates. This allows me to run in colder weather and snow. My plan is in the late spring to swap back to 18s with summer tires. It was a cheap solution but I recognize these are not performance tires meant for the track. I have a 987.2 S and 17s fit.

For me personally. A summer set and winter set works the best. But the current all seasons are pretty good so I can see someone using them all year. But I would miss that really good summer tire grip.

I had them on a Mercedes AMG CLA45 and absolutely loved them. However, it was an all-wheel drive car. I am considering them for my Cayman R when the Michelins wear out. I would love to not park it all winter.

I currently have the DWS 06 on my 07 Cayman S in Minnesota. I run them for fall, winter, and spring and then summer tires in the summer. I can go up hard pack snowy hills but still suck in any kind of loose snow. The car is too light and clearance is too low. So if I’m out and it snows suddenly I’m fine. But I would not chose to drive it on a snow day. After a snow day when the roads are somewhat plowed is possible.

I put a set of Michelin Cross Climate 2 (all season with the 3 peak ice and snow designation) on my E39 BMW 525IT in late December so my daughter and I could drive from San Francisco to Chicago where she's in College. We had a great drive out at speeds between 90 and 110 where possible. Got into some snow and ice outside of Gallup New Mexico and the tires just gripped. Now, the car is in Chicago and my daughter is amazed at how much grip she has in snow and ice. I wouldn't want to track them, but for all the things they do well, I'd be fine with them on a sports car in the winter.

I used them on my BMW 3 series. Worked great. On my Cayman -S I went with Toyo Proxes . Also great. Both worked great in Maryland weather.

Never had them on the 911 or cayman but I run them on everything else.. including a rwd C-class, Arteon and Tiguan and the DWS’s tick all the boxes. I run blizzaks on the c-class and ther better than DWS’s, but not hugely
