Suggestion
Cost of repairs has gone up a lot apparently and with the issues with parts delivery lots of expense on courtesy cars etc….some body shops charge storage whilst a car is waiting for repair too.

My take is they all piss in the same pot, the insurance they provide is regulated (most likely a lot revert to big companies like Zurich etc) so I go for the cheapest that provides the specific cover I want.

Hi,
I’ve spent two years away from a 911 and about to pull the trigger on a 992 Turbo S.
I’m getting quotes of £5k plus now.
I live in London but my car is kept in my private garage at night. License for 18 years, 12 years NCB etc.
Does anyone have recommendations of companies with sensible prices on 911?
Wow.
I just ran a search, 2022 Carrera S manual, cheapest price is £3,600 with Sheila which I wouldn't entertain.
Otherwise, £7k
I'm currently insuring a Macan and a 330d plus home insurance for £1,500
Mental
Admiral insure my new 992 Carrera S for approx £800. I used one of the insurance price comparison websites, Admiral was the lowest cost well known insurance company. But I’ve held my driving licence for a very long time, huge NCB, live in the Midlands, car garaged.
I was surprised to find some insurance companies I’d used before (LV, Direct Line) wouldn’t offer cover at all, due to the high value. I guess now values are in six figures, it’s starting to get into a specialist market. Maybe try a broker?
Are you in any of the owners clubs and tried their recommended insurers - Locktons for example?
Any reasons you would specifically attract higher costs, points/claims etc?
I've got 5 cars at home. Most of the insurance for each has gone up around 40%. Massive rise - its gonna hit the second hand ca market, especially with rises on mortgage payments coming down the pipeline.
A huge number of factors are going to impact on the cost of car ownership - Insurance, Fuel, Finance Rates, Servicing, Depreciation, Congestion Charges ……… not to mention the state of our grid-locked roads.
And, with the other escalating lifestyle costs, more people, especially in urban areas, are electing not to own a car, and that is likely to be a future trend.
Cost of repairs has gone up a lot apparently and with the issues with parts delivery lots of expense on courtesy cars etc….some body shops charge storage whilst a car is waiting for repair too.
Think they’re taking the piss though…£7k seems huge !
Wow, that's a bit crazy. Can't all be down to location?
I'm paying £3k for 911 Turbo S, Taycan Turbo S and an X5, gated driveway overnight in the North West. No claims/points and still quite a bit younger than 40 and I thought that was extreme.
Apparently some insurance companies are refusing to insure RR,s in London due to thefts.
All car insurance has shot up., cheaoest i can get for my renewal at the moment is the £800 compared to £510 last year.
Try speaking with First Point brokers who should be able to provide some competitive quotes. Unfortunately being London based will make things more challenging given thefts in recent times.

What company are you using?
It's through Aviva Private Clients
I'm also with Aviva Private Clients via A-Plan, c £4.5k pa for the GT3 and RS4 with the former in an underground car park and both with trackers, fringe zone 1 London, so it doesn't sound out of the ordinary for how things are atm I'm afraid.
I notice they've put a caveat on the 'you can drive other people's cars' clause to limit the value to £75k which I think is new as well
£7k seems nuts
For our 2007 997 Turbo, for me and my wife (both wrong side of 50) full NCB and no accidents, in a good postcode, its £300 pa. Mileage is limited to 5k pa and we have 5 other cars.

For higher value supercars I've gone through Airsports Insurance Bureau (AIB) and they saved me money relative to the regular consumer direct car insurance quotations that I was getting. I'm not using them currently as I have a sub £100k car that the usual brands are used to insuring.

I'll have to check my documents, not that I often drive other peoples cars over that value with the exception of my business partners Taycan. Having said that, we could probably argue it's dropped below that over the last few months!

Any recommendations you can put forward. I live in London and I have a 991 C2S. I ran a first quote and got 1.6K. I forgot to add that my last car caught fire and I had an insurance claim of 10K that went through. When I added that my insurance jumped to 2.6K. What is nuts about it is that there is no correlation between a fire on my last car and the Porsche.

“Have you had any accidents fault or non fault in the last 5 years?”
That is the question that allows them to shaft their clients for 5 years, even if it was a no fault claim and your own insurers didn’t pay out a penny - crooks.

Yep, it's all a scam. And we'll all stfu and take the shafting because we're British and we like to comply.

I am British and don't like to comply, but ultimately if you want to drive a car you will need insurance (unless you are a low life), all the insurers work together and share information.
If you "forget" to mention something they will still take your money, if you need to claim from them they will refuse to pay out and keep your money, they hold all the cards.
I am happy to follow your lead if you have a plan

BUT you still made a claim for £10,000!! insurance is a risk business you claimed you now pay the cost not sure why you call them crooks
I am aware the mid to high networth insurance market has been hit very hard over the last couple of years not only due to thefts but also due to the number of insurers who no longer offer cover for either single vehicles or high value cars. not 100% but i hear Admiral have a max limit of a car now.
Aviva private clients have stopped writing business since end of last year, RSA, and with all the mergers the market has shrunk
How many policies does it take to cover the cost of a stolen Rolls royce SUV? insurance is a business

Not only has the number of high value car thefts increased massively over the past year, the cost of repair of Porsches has also risen substantially.
Unfortunately, if you want to have an insurance policy that covers most risks, it is not cheap any longer and this an expense that needs to be factored in, when considering purchase of a Porsche. The days of cheap sports car driving is fast dwindling

Who made a claim for £10,000?
Should also check your insurance for the likes of PPF. I have Admiral multi car policy for TVR, 2022 Cayman 4.0 GTS and 2 'kids' (man 21 & woman 19) on 1.0 cars. My 2 cars are c£600 in total and disclosed PPF on Porsche but no extra premium. But classed as exterior enhancement. Premium also reduced if spouse/partner named on policy whether they drive car or not. TBF I have been with them c13 years, renewals came in at 26% increase, shopped around and went back to them and got it down to 16% increase.

I did - as mentioned above my SL 63 caught fire while I was driving it. An electrical fire under the dash. I claimed and it was fixed. Total cost was 10K. Frankly I was amazed they agreed to fix the car. The cost of the repair was almost 25% of the value of the car. It was returned on a Friday.....on Monday I traded it in for a 911.1 C2S. No way I was continuing with the SL.

Speaking to an insurer today I have to agree. Turns out car thefts have shot up to service the Russian market as no one sells cars to them. As well as the overall cost of repairs the insurance industry had a torrid 2023 and are determined to make up for it in 2024.

Make a claim, they'll all look for the loophole as I found out when Mrs S was hit in the rear whilst parked in a queue of traffic and the other parties insurers admitted full liability straight off. My insurer didn't need to do anything but the 'discussion' on the phone was like a police interview to check SD&P v commuting, employment, other vehicles in the household - basically every question on the insurance proposal!
The used to be a discount for spouse cover on a vehicle, I expect now that as my wife has had a no fault accident that will inflate the premium so I'll just take her off my cars given she doesn't drive them. On the plus side I'm fed up of disclosing a windscreen claim for the last 5yrs which will come off this year. I forgot once and they challenged me on it, presumably recorded on MID.

I am no fan of insurance companies, but if you don’t lie about anything you have nothing to worry about, they have taken on a risk and charged a premium based on what you told them.
If they are paying out shed loads of money they are entitled to check that, not everyone is honest.
I had an incredibly frustrating experience trying to insure my new 992 T yesterday. I currently have a multi car policy which includes my current 718 GTS, so I thought I’d just pop online, change the details, pay a bit more snd Bob’s your aunty…. But no he wasn’t.
The website crashed when trying to update the vehicle using both the specific registration and just the model type. No problem, I’ll contact the helpline, nope our underwriters won’t cover that model. Yes we’ll cover virtually every other cheaper or more expensive 992 (excluding GT cars), but not that. I said surely this must be some sort of data error…. Yeah possibly, but computer says no. I point out that it will cost hundreds more to insure separately elsewhere, tough, but as a goodwill gesture they will wave the cancellation fee.
On the basis I don’t need track day etc. insurance I ended up on a comparison site and chose Sainsburys, which turns it to be underwritten by LV.
I hate insurance companies.
I don't believe Admiral now accept Agreed Valuations. That's what put me off going down this route with my 996TT. Just re-insured it with ManningsUK. 3k miles max.

I had a problem changing a car mid insurance. I went online and updated the new vehicle (actully same make/model but 2yrs newer) and the "quote" to swap came in at £60. Not bad I thought. Once I'd agreed the collection day (2-days later) I go back in to do the transfer. The system won't let me and then comes up with a purchase price at nearly £120. I ring them up and ask why the "quote" is vastly different from the additional premium - "Oh that's a guide, we get a lot of customers who look for quotes for cars they ultimately don't purchase"! When I challenge them and say what's the point of a quote if it's nowehere near the actual real price given its purpose is to inform the customer whether or not the insurance is worth taking, and surely this practice is a matter for the Insurance Ombudsman? A back office chat with the manager gets me back to the original quoted price. What a Privilege
General question for the many Admiral Porsche customers, are you allowed to choose your repairer should the need arise?
Or is your repairer chosen for you/dictated by Admiral?
I had a quote yesterday from Admiral. My 991T came in at £421.47, fully comp, kept in locked garage, business use included and my wife as named driver. I specifically asked them about repairs and received a timely return call this morning assuring me that I could use Porsche approved repairers and also that I could have genuine OEM glass in the event of a windscreen claim.
I have not read the small print though.
Interestingly, the quote for my wife's Boxster T came in £4 dearer despite being a less expensive vehicle.
This was as part of a multi-car policy. Overall, broadly a 50% increase on last year's prices and very similar to my renewal quote from LV. Am still looking.
Be very aware that Admiral use Glasses and CAPs to find the market value - and they'll remind you it's a market value policy when making the settlement.
I've just phoned my brother as he raves about his insurance company - he uses Locktons via PCGB. He's got an agreed valuation, business use, it's slightly modified (but apparently when going through the modifications the person he was dealing with was knowledgeable), he and his wife are fully comp and he can let anyone else drive it fully comp and it's covered for PCGB track days - circa £400pa (car value is £37.5k, 42yo, no points for reference)

I was starting to think I was the only one asking, sounds good.
I know people personally in the motor game who are doing insurance work for a living - lovely people, known them for decades but I wouldn't let them paint my wheelie bin.
With Admiral in the event of a claim you can opt for your chosen repairer not theirs BUT they will typically withdraw your right to a courtesy car.
There have been instances where they have requested a contribution if OEM repairs are chosen but this appears to be a common trait across the insurance industry.

Also the more expensive the parts/repair the closer it pushes it to the total loss status which is typically 50-60% of the pre accident market value.

So the premium is less and what you get is less - you pays your money etc.
Insurance related but not for a Porsche ( LV insured my 18 reg 991.2 Targa 4 GTS for £187.00 before I sold it in 2021), I am thinking of buying a brand new Mercedes GT 2 door coupe and thought I would check out whether I could get it insured at a reasonable price or not insured at all. I was pleasantly surprised that a quote from Admiral came out at £845.

Going through this with Admiral at the moment with my Golf. I asked to use my own repairer (ironically a Porsche indy), and provided them with the (very reasonable) quote. Admiral refused to allow me to use them based on the hourly labour rate of £80ph !
I ended up using their approved repairer and a simple bumper replacement has taken a month....... Not a great process - I just ran out of energy fighting it.... I haven't seen the total cost of the job yet, but I bet any money it will have been more than the quote from the repairer I wanted to use !
Experiences may be different with higher value cars, and potentially they will allow a higher labour rate, but I'm not sure I would want to be having to deal with Admiral on my Porsche.......
There is no such thing as “cheap” insurance. You pay a lower premium because they pay out less in the event of a claim….Admiral have not reinvented the wheel but they are one of the more profitable car insurers.
Someone sent me this a couple of weeks ago…ironically I am insured with Zurich Private Clients for motor and home insurance. One of the reasons I’m insured with them is that three track days are included in the cover for my GT3, which a lot of insurers won’t do now.

On one hand, that’s great for the Lambo owner.
On the other, it seems that the rest of the insurance customers (Zurich Private Clients) will have to pay more to cover the costs. This partly explains the higher premiums charged by the upmarket insurance companies.

Renewal time for me in July on my 997.2 Carrera s
Last year £749
This year £796
Pretty decent I would say and that’s with Loctons .
Also as a side note , I had a no fault claim on a previous vehicle 3 years ago that was an 11k bill sorted quickly and professionally .
I had a quote recently for a 997.2 C2S from confused.com, slightly shocked it was only £233 (£43k value, 47, Yorkshire, 11+ yrs NCB). Nearly £100 less than my E46 M3 - hopefully selling that soon and buying said C2S...
Good job it was terrible weather yesterday - 2 hours getting car insurance quotes. Been with LV multi car for 5 years. Covers the Porsche (981S 2014), 1 yr old Polestar, 13 year old Discovery 4 and 2013 Beetle with 20YO daughter on the policy just for that car. Went from c£2k to £3k. The Porsche being the CHEAPEST to insure. Polestar highest, then the Beetle (due to young driver), LR then the Porsche. Cheaper now to insure the Porsche & Polestar together on one policy; daughter on her own policy (which means she grows NCD); wife on sep policy for the LR with me as a named driver . c£2k doing it this way.

It seems to me regardless of anything insurers send a renewal with a 60% increase (eg), after a whinge they reduce it to a tiny 30% increase (in line with inflation) and most people take it.
Obviously the clients who tick the auto renew option get shafted for being lazy or too trusting.
I cannot for the life of me think why most insurers are generally so disliked.
The best company by far I have dealt with insurance wise is Lockton - not great at answering the phones but other than that well happy with them.

Electric cars are more expensive from an insurance perspective to fix due to the labour costs and limited skills set. Should have suck to an ICE.
Renewal time on my Cayman R.
21 years NCD, 50s, Street Parking London
Admirals
Last year
£643.81 with windscreen cover
This year
£497.73 without windscreen cover
£540.51 with windscreen cover
I've just renewed my 991.2 GT3 with Zurich Private Clients via Howdens (formerly A-Plan).
Last year 2.5k
This year 2.4k
Guaranteed value, Porsche repair, not garaged, trackday cover included etc
The policy is considerably cheaper if the car is garaged, but that's not possible at the moment.

1 x BEV; 2 x petrol; 2 x diesel - the balance is still in ICE favour. But yes, if you only have 1 car - stick with ICE. With the tax benefits of running a Polestar as a business owner it's a no-brainer as the daily. And it's £150 more a year to insure than the Discovery - which doesn't feel disproportionate as it's probably worth 3 x more than the Disco.

Engine over revved when hitting the ladder sounds like absolute balls. Was he on the rev limiter when he hit it?
Very Daily Mail like "the Lambo hit a stepladder", what, it drove itself into a step ladder did it, take some responsibility FFS !

I had a quote recently for a 997.2 C2S from confused.com, slightly shocked it was only £233 (£43k value, 47, Yorkshire, 11+ yrs NCB). Nearly £100 less than my E46 M3 - hopefully selling that soon and buying said C2S...
Before you sign up with them, check the excess.
I was insuring my 997 with Classicline because it covered track days.I decided I didn't need track day insurance and had a look around.
Confused were about £100 cheaper than Classicline but my excess from Classicline was (IIRC) £400, the excess from Confused (again IIRC) was £1500.
Decided to stay with Classicline.

What's probably more annoying is that the motorway is covered in cameras for speeders and those useless gits in the Motorway patrols but god forbid the police investigate and prosecute the van driver that caused all of this.
Pip
not sure if the OP purchased a car but since Covid the insurance premiums have rocketed for several reasons, Parts suply delays and parts costs, FCA rulings, business running costs etc
London has become a lawless society with the number of thefts is crazy, i am aware the new headlight units on 911 and taycans are being stolen i heard they were £5,000 for each headlight!! which does not surprise me as a friend was qtd £5k for an audi A3 headlight soem Mercedes are the same crazy price. It does not matter what security you foit to a car the thieves can still take it.
Even though the car is kept in the OP privtae parking it is also when he is driving on the road or parked outside his local supermarket.
If you fancy an eye watering look at the utterly corrupt insurance industry, Mark McCann has 2 videos showing just how ludicrous the tossers can be. If you can put up with his videos that is, but I found them quite informative and shocked (not shocked) at how bad they can be. The regulator is useless and leaves things far too open to interpretation. This is the latest one.

Regardless of covid caused shortages, we are being massively ripped off! Some of them are utter
s!
There is a moral to the following story so please bear with me.
My experience this week on getting insurance for a 992 SC.
Monday, gained quote from Adrian Flux verbally at 4:30pm. Explained I was collecting the car on Tuesday. Gentleman on phone gave me a price and asked if I wanted to go ahead on the spot. Said he wanted to ensure the price does not go up overnight, which I thought was a bit strange (and pushy). I said I had another quote coming and would place the order Tuesday. He said he'd call me Tuesday morning to see if I wanted to proceed.
Dead on 7pm that evening I received the written quote via email. It said a start time of 00:00 hrs Tuesday morning. (Written quote states prices are usually valid for 30 days).
Tuesday morning (en-route to collect the car) they didn't call so I called them. Lady answered phone, I said I wanted to go-ahead. She said great, I will just check the price has not changed (since 7pm)...
In the next breath she said, I can see there has been a price change and the quote is now £XXX, which was nearly £1k more!
I said how can that be when the written quote was sent 7pm the day before and they closed at 7pm?
She said it was the underwriters "attitude" to customers who want to insure on the same day and they wouldn't honour the original quote.
She then changed the quote to have a start day of Wednesday and the quote went back down to the original price.
I explained that was not an option as I was 3 hours into the journey to collect the car.
She asked me if I still wanted to go-ahead!
I said I certainly would not insure with a company that operates so unethically.
Call ended.
I was royally Fluxed!
I phoned up the Porsche Centre I was heading to and they were excellent. Offered me 5 days free drive-away insurance and introduced me to Porsche Insurance. Called them en-route. They provided instant 5 days free drive-away insurance and their quote for the year was £600 cheaper than the original Adrian Flux quote, (and nearly £1600 cheaper than the AF 'on the day' price) so I placed the business there and then. By the time I arrived at the OPC, the car was fully insured, sat there waiting for me to drive away!
In the past few years I have insured various cars with Adrian Flux inc. Speciale, F8 Spider and Range Rovers, all with hefty premiums. I was very surprised at the way they handled this transaction and lost this sale and future business.
In stark contrast Porsche Insurance were superb (I think the underwriter is Allianz).
Moral of the story. Shark infested waters, the insurance industry. Be fickle. Get your quote at least 5 days before you need the cover to start and get a price promise. If Adrian Flux are reading this, I hope you take the learnings.
1987 Carrera SC, garaged in Kent with agreed value of £65k and 5k mileage cap for this 64 year old…£250 with Adrian Flux. It was half the price of insuring my 1996 SL500!

Classic car rates hence £250 per year

We used Adrian Flux for my daughters first car. Its been an absolute nightmare. They have harassed us constantly, via the app, via text, via email. Its been relentless, my conclusion is that they want their cake and eat it. Theyt are pursuing an almost zero risk policy whilst charging astounding premiums. We leave them in December and I cannot wait. When I contacted them to ask them to back off as we cant keep up with the messages being received, we got a letter 2 days later accusing my daughter of being an Uber driver. She's a full time student and lives with me. We had to sign a statement to say she doesnt have a part time job or drives for Uber.
The last message was a threat cancel the insurance because she hasnt accessed their s
tty app, she's away at my parents for the summer, so that may be why!
Avoid like the plague, I can only imagine the grief they give you when you dare to claim!
