Fast forward to last Friday, where I opened and closed both lids with no issue (to replace the belt and hood shocks), but the fault happened again, leaving me with the shopping stuck in the front.

After getting RAC out, we found the drunk would not open, so the car was started by accessing the engine compartment using the cable.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all. My first post... not an extroverted poster, I just live vicariously through others' witterings. I have a 2003 C2 convertible, which has a poorly wired aftermarket stereo that will drain the battery if I don't remember to turn it completely off, which happened last week. After getting RAC out, we found the drunk would not open, so the car was started by accessing the engine compartment using the cable. After driving the car, the front and rear lids popped open after 5 minutes (I had to pull over to close them), but would not open again if closed. They would open again after a further 5 minutes driving. The next day they opened normally, so I thought it was a battery issue. Fast forward to last Friday, where I opened and closed both lids with no issue (to replace the belt and hood shocks), but the fault happened again, leaving me with the shopping stuck in the front. After a half hour of trying to open them, they suddenly popped open again, and seem to work now. Has anyone seen this before? If so, what could be causing the issue? Many thanks in advance!

POST 2Original post

Moisture in the switch area. Give it a good blast with a hair dryer and see how you go. Putting electronic switches so near to where they can get damp has always baffled me. Not 100% saying it's this but I bet it is. I've had a similar problem in the past.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Funnily enough, my partner wondered this too. Thanks... I'll try and see if this works.
