I fitted top gear sports silencers a year ago to an otherwise original setup due to crumbling seams and slightly rattley original silencers.

You can have them repaired (a recent trend on here) but I wanted a better sound and always good to replace all the hardware while there off.

Mine is an early 997 on which I've just changed my full exhaust.

should I really be thinking of replacing headers, cats and mufflers.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 996.2 Carrera 2, lovely condition with 68K. Silencers are going at the seams... normal thing. I am thinking of just replacing the mufflers as everything else seems OK. I'm planning on keeping her for a few years... so my question is... should I really be thinking of replacing headers, cats and mufflers. Not hunting power, or looking to spend money unnecessarily, but would like a little more sound. Interested to hear thoughts/experiences? Like I say, nothing wrong with headers or cats other than they are 18 years old!
I have the same car, I have the PSE but like yours the boxes had started to wear. You can have them repaired (a recent trend on here) but I wanted a better sound and always good to replace all the hardware while there off. I opted for topgear, which are excellent quality and value. Previously my 996.1 had a designtek mufflers which wasn't as good and previous to that I had a Dansk which I liked (they do get mixed reviews.
I have kept standard headers (had them shot peened), but opted for the 200 cell cats (xpipe) looks a smart job underneath and sounds lovely (in my opinion)

Should be good for another few year now ðŸ‘
I can't see a need to replace the whole system if it's just the seams on the boxes that are going. I had a similar problem and replaced mine with DesignTek ones bought from a member on here

I fitted top gear sports silencers a year ago to an otherwise original setup due to crumbling seams and slightly rattley original silencers. I am very happy with price, fitment and sound. Could it be louder.... yes..... would I get bored of that quickly..... I expect so.
Were these their 'loud' sports silencers or the mild sports ones? Interested in the loader ones but worried they would be too loud for normal use.
Thanks for input guys. Much appreciated 😊
I can't really help you with that as mine are switchable, nice and punchy when valves are open tho... Topgear stuff doesn't really drone, so you will get a good note from either box
My C2 996.1 has Miltek silencers only as the rest looks OK, apart from corroded bolts.
With standard cats and manifolds, but Miltek silencers, it sounds just about right for me. A lovely growl when you want it , but can be driven carefully around town without attracting attention.
It sounds even better now I've added the PSR 9 Line Resonator delete kit and induction pipe to my K&N lifetime panel filter.
When I finally have to tackle the manifold bolts, then I'll change the manifolds.
They aren't bonkers loud. But my idea of loud might be different to yours ðŸ˜
I like a bit of flat six audio drama so they're perfect for the short blatting about I do.
If you have standard silencers now then I would suggest going for the mild sports Top Gear silencers, I previously had the 'aggressive sports' Top Gear silencers, they were great for my weekend car but could be a bit much on a daily driver, they weren't too loud for me and give you the full flat six sound, on my then standard cats and manifolds I thought they sounded great but they may well be too loud for some.
Sorry to impose. I'm peeking in from the 997 section. I'm not sure if my exhaust is the same as 996's? Mine is an early 997 on which I've just changed my full exhaust. If so maybe this will apply. I've taken out my silencers and made my own delete pipes (reason I'm also here is to find out if exhausts are the same, as a couple have asked me to make them some pipes), there's a recent thread of mine on the 997 section, but I'll add the YouTube link here for anyone that wants to listen. I will say though, if your car is a daily, this is probably too loud..

I'm all for blatting with a bit of dramatics, so sounds like they may be just what I'm looking for 😉Listened to quite a few videos and they don't sound stupid loud.
