Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Trying to change the rear number plate bulbs today. After removing both cross head screws only one side of the light appears to be free to move..am I ,missing something obvious? I have assumed that the lamp can be removed without removal of the rear bumper. Has anyone got some advice for me? 996 2004 UK car.

POST 2Original post

Remove both screws, use a plastic pry tool or flat screwdriver at one end of the lamp holder tab, it should drop straight out. I'd swap for LED bulbs or LED fittings, better quality of light in my opinion

POST 3Original post

My thread here might help you: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=136671 As said, remove the screws and the light unit drops down vertically. Gets stuck on with all the sludge though so may need a bit of persuasion.

POST 4Original post

That will do it! Remember mine where caked in muck !

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the responses. I came in and had a cup of tea, when I returned both lamps came out very easy with a plastic pry tool. This was for me the last job at replacing all of the bulbs with Osram LED's. Only the fog lamp bulb remains a fiilament lamp since H3 LED upgrade does not fit in the confined space available. The car already had the xennon HID low beam option, but the high beam upgrade to LED is a huge difference.

POST 6Original post

Devil's spawn!!!  Ignore me. I've a hatred towards LED bulbs in cars that didn't have them from new. Just looks wrong. Glad you got sorted though. :thumb:

POST 7Original post

One of the first things I did when I got mine was change all the LED bulbs to standard filament bulbs. Much prefer the 'classic' look of standard bulbs.

POST 8Original post

If you get a good quality LED I think they look better, not a fan of the dull yellow look but understand they are standard....Fresh plates for me too 👌

POST 9Original post

Quite happy to have my number plate lights as dim as possible whilst still legal. :cop:
