Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I understand it would be a possibility whilst yumping and keeping your foot planted and also running downhill in top gear and running out of gearing but that is the only scenarios I can think of.
Leading evidence: 'Run downhill in top gear' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run downhill in top gear' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
The reaction of the car to just mashing the pedal depends upon what gear the box is in and what revs you are using when you do it.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I have a 2004 Turbo tiptronic.
I don't pay that much attention to what gear it puts me in etc..except that when i try to fire up the turbos I get two reactions:
Sometimes it just boosts up all seems very ciivilised in a good way..huge acceleration, good (subjective) noise...on these occasions when i peep i ma probably in gear 4.
Sometimes it wails like a banshee...i look down see I am in 2nd or 3rd gear still and am reaching for the upshift button. Its kind a fun ...but i sense its wrong.
I had a ppi done and it shows rev range hits
RR1 1791 4893h
RR2 4 2717h
9e flagged this as amber...i haven't discussed it further with them yet.
Any thoughts on what to expect from a tip when floored and on the data?
Thanks
K
This, from 911V, will help you understand what the rev range report is telling you.

Regarding the 'flooring' of a Tiptronic turbo. The reaction of the car to just mashing the pedal depends upon what gear the box is in and what revs you are using when you do it.
Personally I've never found it very exciting to do in 'D' from anything other than a standstill as kick-down can be quite erratic in the way that you have described.
For me the best experiences of 'turbo oomph' have been when I've had the car in 'M' and done it. Obviously this means that you have to be alert and ready to change up.
RR1 1791 4893h This indicates the car has done approx 145K miles at last over rev in this range.
RR2 4 2717h This indicates the car had done approx 81 K miles at last over rev in this range.
It's a long time ago and therefore of no issue .
Bouncing off the rev limiter will not on its own cause an over rev but on an incline it has the possibility of doing so ... as will going airborne !!
Are the spacings of the digits correct in the first post :?:
If 9e have flagged it as an amber I'd just that the number of high revs are bigger and the since hours are less. :dont know:
Is there a line which shows the current operating hours of the engine?
That rev range report shows that the last time RR1 was hit was at 4893 hours.
That total distance line shows 157,512 and iirc you've said previously that your car has done 150k+ miles so from that figure it seems likely that the car last hit the RR1 limit quite recently. That may be why 9e flagged it as an amber warning.
The tiny number of RR2 over-revs shown is not relevant and in any case was hit a long time ago at 2717 operating hours.
Thanks all the insight everyone....feel like this isnt too much of a deal and i am having work done next week on it...so will have it double checked.
Also need to learn more about driving a turbo/trip
Regarding does it matter...
It was more about whether it was indicative of a underlying problem (especially with it being a tiptronic and the perhaps normal but seemingly erratic gear selection and revving i encounter).
Thanks k
Rev range
Reading this has left me confused...I own a 996tt tip and I wasn't aware of it being possible to hit the rev limiter...If I'm in D or M on full throttle my car simply changes up automatically at the end of a gear which I believe is at about 6500rpm. Can someone explain how it is possible to hit the limiter in a tip. Cheers.
If your going down hill and you hit the limiter the car's momentum will carry it past the limit position .
If you are at the limiter and you take off .. say over a bridge the car will again exceed the limiter .
Porsche still state you can't over rev these cars .. but on a 111 point check if over revs are found then it's Still a ticket into Porsche to confirm they will put a warranty on it .
I should have been more specific...In everyday driving am I correct in thinking you can't hit the limiter in a tip? I understand it would be a possibility whilst yumping and keeping your foot planted and also running downhill in top gear and running out of gearing but that is the only scenarios I can think of. Cheers
