On mine I managed to get a small pair of waterpump pliers on to the rear of the nut through the small gaps then used another pair of pliers to hold the handles of the first pair.

The nuts are riv nuts so I used my rivnut tool to retension them then put anti size on the bolts to stop them seizing again.

Not sure if it helps - I found one of the nuts had broken free from it's welds on my Carrera spoiler that I purchased used recently.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm trying to remove the inner rear deck lid (the plastic cover that the fan is attached to) on my 996 turbo, so I can access the spoiler pump. 2 of the bolts that hold this on are just spinning and not unscrewing from their mounting (the mounting in the lid is turning due to the bolts expanding due to oxidising). I can't really get to the mounting (as they are under the deck lid) to hold onto them. Anyone had this problem and managed to get them undone with resorting to cutting off the bolt heads then drilling out the bolts?

POST 2Original post

A few years ago I tried to get that cover off on mine however mine has an aerokit rear lid but I had the same problem. A couple of the bolts undid normally but as I tried to undo a couple of the others I could feel the nut part starting to turn. Luckily I realised what was happening so didn't keep turning. On mine I managed to get a small pair of waterpump pliers on to the rear of the nut through the small gaps then used another pair of pliers to hold the handles of the first pair. I then got the bolts out ok. The nuts are riv nuts so I used my rivnut tool to retension them then put anti size on the bolts to stop them seizing again. Don't know what the access is like on the standard spoiler so this maybe no help what so ever. I thought I'd mention it though as I was pleased I managed to sort it and it might just work for you lol Mac

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the tip, will give that a go.

POST 4Original post

Thought I'd taken a pic! Once I got the one on the right off I managed to get behind and got the others!

POST 5Original post

Not sure if it helps - I found one of the nuts had broken free from it's welds on my Carrera spoiler that I purchased used recently. Was taking it apart ready for painting and found one of them just spinning. I managed to rotate the entire spoiler assembly enough for me to squeeze a spanner into the gap and hold on to the nut. Only other thing I can think of is to drill the head from the bolt if you can't get a spanner on to the nut.
