I know Design911 got it installed on they orange project car.

I seem to recall that Autofarm offer a version for the 3.4 engine as well.......I'll check my back-copies tonight unless someone beats me to it.

It is a decent amount of pounds to spend though, so have your engine inspected first if you go the supercharged route.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi I have spent many hours searching through the 911uk forums over the last 6 months since purchasing my 996 C2. Big thank you to all on here as I have learnt a huge amount.
Yesterday I came across a supercharger kit to fit a N/A 996.
http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/pt697_2186_-cma81-cmo110/Porsche/996--911--1997-05/Supercharger-Kits/
This makes me wonder how the slightly fragile 996 N/A engine would cope with this. Surely it would be putting the engine under additional strain?
I have to say for the price it would make more sense to me to sell mine and put the money toward a turbo.
Interested in what others think!
470BHP would be scary in a c2!
Or, for a similar(ish) price to the supercharger kit you can go the Autofarm 3.9 conversion route. Power-wise it won't compare to either the turbo or the supercharger ('only' 380bhp) but it's an option, although maybe admittedly more suited if your engine were ever to go pop, rather than as an actual 'upgrade'...
Ant you raise a good point. As I am sure autofarm would also be doing some supplementary work to strengthen the engine. Rather than just slappng a supercharger on it!
Has anyone on here had theirs bored to 3.9?

There was an article regarding the Autofarm 3.9 conversion in Total 911 magazine a couple of months ago. I seem to recall that Autofarm offer a version for the 3.4 engine as well.......I'll check my back-copies tonight unless someone beats me to it.
£5,200 + installation + increased
insurance
(
if
your present insurer will extend cover) + the jump-in-the-dark risk of poor engine mapping + the associated risks of engine/other mechanical failure?
Nah, not worth it. Buy a Turbo.
Hi guys,
I've had my supercharger for years now, i love it, amazing power and aircraft torque whilst quiet too. I've got to say, i have never had the car go wrong at all.
It is a decent amount of pounds to spend though, so have your engine inspected first if you go the supercharged route.
Regards
Vinny
Then again you gonna have a car like others.
By doing the conversion you gonna stand out from the crowd.
The best feeling ever you will have is when a turbo pulls next to you and you use that supercharger
I'm looking at this myself as planning to get my first Porsche soon>
I love when the car doesn't look at what it has (hope you know what i mean)
Calipers. I to like the stealthy approach! Nothing worse than a 'turbo of GT2 look-a-like. Of course thats my opinion, each to there own and all that.
Vinny. I am intregued by your reply. How long have you had it installed? Is it the kit shown in my original post? Is your car c2 or c4? Did you have any additional work done first or during installation? VF engineering say it is a 'bolt-on kit' with no other work required. Are you more concerened about IMS, RMS or heat issues? Do you think your car really has 470BHP of usable power? Sorry for all the questions
I sent an email to VF engineering just to find out a bit more;
Found some more info and pics of the kit here

I know Design911 got it installed on they orange project car. Not sure if it`s finished or not so you can give them a call and they might do demonstration if possible.
Ok so I've done a little (a lot) of searching the web. These kits seem really popular in USA and it is quite hard to find a bad review. Also not as many horror stories as you would think.
I was beginning to really like the idea of my car having performance close to a turbo. RWD of course so still a lot of fun to drive. Also I much prefer the look of the carrera. Not a big fan of the large side vents on the 996 turbo. Although I can see why they are there!
Today I phoned admiral as a mod like this would obviously need to be notified. After trying to explain to a lady who's english clearly is not as good as you would hope what exactly I am considering doing I was put on hold. After a minute she returned to say 'If you fit a device like that we will not be able to cover you'. She also kindly made a note of the conversation on there system. I wonder if I am now on some kind of chav list. I guess I will find out when it comes to renewal.
