Replaced all mine over Christmas with spyder performance parts, very few miles done for obvious reasons but they felt fine on the test drive and fitted with no issues.

Suggestion · Original poster

Not to mention in theory if I replace an OEM arm with an OEM arm I shouldn't need to get a geometry done which saves the different anyway.

So my rear control arm bushes on both sides are pretty much deteriorated and would like to replace the two as soon as the weather starts to warm up, considered Hartech refurbs but see little point to refurb knowing the ball joint then could fail 10k later.

Especially as the coffin arm/tuning fork bolt needs to be seriously tight so nice to use a new fixing.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So my rear control arm bushes on both sides are pretty much deteriorated and would like to replace the two as soon as the weather starts to warm up, considered Hartech refurbs but see little point to refurb knowing the ball joint then could fail 10k later. I'm looking for replacement arms and was wondering if anyone has any advice as to the best options are? I'm looking for OEM style replacements nothing special or adjustable, currently considering a pair from Teile which are apparently genuine new for £300 but see masses of aftermarket ones for around £50-£80. My concern with after market ones are reading some people not being able to get their geometry back in spec with Meyle arms on the rear which are apparently slightly shorter than OEM which worries me hence looking to pay almost twice the cost for the genuine article. Not to mention in theory if I replace an OEM arm with an OEM arm I shouldn't need to get a geometry done which saves the different anyway. Supposedly TRW are the manufacture for the original Porsche ones but everywhere I looked they were either out of stock or had the price inflated to the point they were more expensive than buying Porsche branded ones at the OPC.

POST 2Original post

Centre of Gravity did a Zoom talk about 996 suspension arranged by PCGB, they said that Meyle stuff was generally fine so I put Meyle rear control arms on mine. I actually only put 1 on, the offside eccentric bolt was siezed so I ended up getting that one done when it had the geometry setup by PARR. I would recommend buying replacement eccentric bolts, nuts, washers and hacksaw incase you have to cut them off.

POST 3Original post

I posted a similar question recently and Meyle were recommended as the best budget option. I've used quite a few of the parts on Skoda's & VWs and always look well made.

POST 4Original post

I bought Meyle with the intension of changing them myself and then getting Centre Gravity to set it up properly. In the end I got CG to change them and a few other parts about three years ago no issues since. After Chris had finished it transformed the car no more vague feeling at high speed, felt like a new car.

POST 5Original post

I got mine from Spyder and CG fitted them, I think the Meyle problem was a while ago and I suspect it has been solved. Hartec are reconditioned OEM parts but they were expensive at the time I did mine.

POST 6Original post

There were apparently a bad batch of Meyle parts 4 or so years ago but they've not had any issues since. I've got 4x Meyle coffin arms and 2x Meyle tuning forks on my car and they are doing a great job as far as I can see. I've used Meyle for years on my BMWs and always had a good experience with them there. Other nice thing about Meyle is they offer a package which includes the fixings with their tuning forks or coffin arms for a tenner more which is good value IMO. Especially as the coffin arm/tuning fork bolt needs to be seriously tight so nice to use a new fixing.

POST 7Original post

Replaced all mine over Christmas with spyder performance parts, very few miles done for obvious reasons but they felt fine on the test drive and fitted with no issues. Top tip - If you add them to your watch list in eBay you quite often get a discount message a few days later, saves a few more quid.

POST 8Original post

I've just put a pair of Meyle fronts on mine. Really good quality item, look far superior to the cheap ones they've replaced that's for sure.

POST 9Original post

I bought Spyder arms and found the inner bush hole was too big by 1mm, with new bushes already fitted this isn't an immediate problem but once you put some miles on them they will prematurely wear the bushes due to the loose fit and movement. I complained that they were too big and they said that is the first they had herd of this issue but then I found out others had also complained so they did know there was a problem but they decided to lie to cover up the problem. If you buy their arms with bushes fitted already you would never know but as I was fitting my own bushes it became obvious there was an issue, I ended up shimming the bushes out by 1mm to make a tight fit. If you don't have the ability to do this be aware?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the replies, I think I'll try the Meyles based on what people have said here.

Where is the best/cheapest place to buy Meyle?

POST 12Original post

I was given an Amazon gift voucher at Xmas and was able to purchase a pair from Design 911 through Amazon. Free postage too. Looks like Design 911 are doing a deal on a pair of these at the mo.
