I had a set of plastic centers that didn't quite hold tight on a set of older replica wheels I had.......I used a few dabs of clear silicone on the back of them to keep them in place.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">The last mile to my house is a gravel road and I've lost a couple of center wheel capsoff ofother cars. I finally started putting a dab of super glue on them to hold them in. Does anyone have a more elegant solution for the Cayman?[/quote]

POST 2Original post

I don't think you'll lose them, the Porsche centers are on very tightly, I've never lost them on the track no matter how hard I've driven. I wouldn't superglue them, and remember to point the crest towards the valve stem!!!

POST 3Original post

Why does the crest get pointed to the valve stem?

POST 5Original post

Its just the 'proper' Porsche way!..........honestly I don't know how this started but I do believe concours judging looks for it. In older Porsche days when one lug nut had a wheel lock covering it, it was supposed to be placed directly opposite from the valve stem for balancing reasons......even said so in the owners manual. I had a set of plastic centers that didn't quite hold tight on a set of older replica wheels I had.......I used a few dabs of clear silicone on the back of them to keep them in place. Doesn't harm the finish and is easy to get off when needed.

POST 6Original post

. . . so it's the pointy end of the crest which points I take it?

POST 8Original post

Thanks. Good to know and you learn something new everyday. Had never known there was a proper way to mount the caps.

POST 9Original post

SF, If you want to adhere them better I would use clear adhesive caulking. All you need is a little and it is very easy to remove. People think of caulking as a sealant which it is, but it is also a great bonding agent. Russ

POST 10Original post

You can buy metal locking crested caps. I bought a set on eBay years ago for under $100 & use them for my track wheels. They have 3 small lock screws on the inside. I think Booth Designs may sell them, but they were rather pricey.
