Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Having replaced the front end of my 996 to a 997, I did have to sort out mesh protection.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So, currently got the front bumper off to sort a leaky headlight washer, and am thinking of fitting some mesh over the apertures. I like the look of the zunsport ones on the 996.2 where the lower one is one continuous piece, but as I have a 2000 C4 996.1 the ones for this model are separate pieces which, to me, don't look so good.
Is there any practical reason why I can't completely remove the additional black plastic piece that is fixed to the back of bumper (and very faded), and then fix mesh directly to the back of the bumper?
And does anyone know of a supplier that does black mesh that is long enough (approx 140cm long)- best I can find is 120cm..
Thanks in advance
Thanks Alex. Looks like you've left the black plastic piece in place.
Can this be removed completely so that the mesh on the bottom aperture can go straight across with no adverse effects?
Which black bit do you mean - the duct or the trim clipped on the bumper? Thats one piece right across. Removing that will leave a big hole under your reg plate.
Having replaced the front end of my 996 to a 997, I did have to sort out mesh protection. I did away with the black plastic bits on the inside of the bumper and added a piping to the vent holes then the mesh was bonded onto that.
Ill try to upload a couple of pictures

Hi,
I would definitely go down the mesh route rather than Zunsport.
Mesh gives an open look and not an aftermarket add on.
It's cheaper so do also.
There's no right or wrong though.
Good luck
