Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. What an odd thing to say. Gt3's are all about track/ fast road driving I for one will be using mine on track as much as possible. And driving it in london as little as possible. For that I have a fiat panda 4x4!

Much as I hate to agree with Mr D - not many of them have been bought by track day regulars and most buyers were more concerned about stitching colour than buckets and harnesses if the PH thread was anything to go by. To put it another way - I saw an Aventador at Silverstone on Monday (and it sounded fabulous), but I see far more in central London apparently trying to pick up impressionable girls... The 991 GT3 is much more that kind of car than the previous GT3s were...

You are deluded lol If you are going to track yours then that's nice to see, but most will never get any where near one. Turn up on a track day and you get the same group of lads, the real car nuts, not the so called hi net worth professionals who went after Porsche asking for money lol. Porsche know how to sell cars and the city foke with the cash want PDK end of.

POST 12Original post

Strange analysis. PDK suddenly means buyers aren't track day billies. Based on nothing at all but your prejudices.

POST 13Original post

The 991 gt3 is porsche's current ultimate track / fast road car. These cars have now taken another step forward in the technology front. Over time you will see owners enjoying there cars on the track. I'm sure once the hype dies down we will see how excellent the new technology is and how much of an improvement these 991 cars are over 997.

POST 24Original post

Try and RMA track day where overtaking is allowed on right or left and you can mix it with some race cars and they have quaility ARDS instructors at reasonable hrly fees……last year i saw a well blinged GT3 at Donnington the guys pride and joy last abt half a day until he binned it…we guessed abt 10k worth of damage but he did have a trailer …so if you are thinking of a track day in new GT3 plan ahead and have a ball …..just keep your head in gear as you get faster ?? these cars are gunna be great track day tools just get some instruction if unsure! happy days

POST 25Original post

agent biscuit said: these cars are gunna be great track day tools....happy days While the word great is of course subjective, I would put it that they will not be a great track day car at all. Not in the way it has been understood for all previous GT3 generations. The combined electronic systems will make it easy to obtain a pre ordained level of performance and at the same time keep performance to that pre ordained level. i.e. there is an envelope set over what your car will allow and everything is designed so that its easy to get there but impossible to go beyond. Combined electronics systems with each using info from the other never feel nice on track. It ends up a mess eventually - always. The more they are able to talk to each other, the worse it gets. They start initially by pulling things back before they end up simply flat out disagreeing with you altogether. It will be adjusting yaw all through corners, braking wheels by itself and overriding throttle inputs lap after lap all in the aim of keeping things sweet. That is how its designed. That is how they are all designed. Why and what does it mean? See above. And lastly, torque vectoring..... on a track. Are you serious? With high slip angles as you run round laps the rear brakes will cook. RWS should help reduce this effect (is this why its really on there?) but it cannot remove it. You have brakes cycling to help keep slip down, slip is always there as its a track. There is only one outcome. The only hope is the tedium of the experience will get you into pit lane frequently enough that your only symptom will be pad wear. Edited by fioran0 on Tuesday 3rd June 02:23

I don't think they are, people who are buying it like it for what it is people who are not buying it, don't like all the electrics. the 2 sides will never agree and hence the older cars have gone up in price due to people wanting that type of car. the 991 GT3 is a great car, more usable, but it's not what a lot of people want. Edited by mrdemon on Wednesday 4th June 09:07

POST 32Original post

Loads of BS above.. probably indeed from people who never owned a GT3 nor will ever own one. As pointed out by somebody with a bit of common sense, PDK doesn't mean the car will suddenly be allergic to track. Go to a serious track day like the ones organised by Gold Track and you might be surprised by the fact that many people owning and driving 458s, Scuderias, Gallardos and MP4s are not just cruising on Sloane Avene... they actually are genuine car enthusiasts and take their pride and joy to the track. Often achieving to drive it back home without having crashed in it. And why would anybody buy a GT3 and not track it a few times a year goes beyond me. The feeling of driving at Spa and Silverstone as fast as you feel (un)comfortable without the fear of crashing on oncoming traffic nor of the hanging damocles sword of the daily-mail-crowd-anti-speeding-crusade just cannot be matched with clothes on.

It's amazing, possibly one of the best cars I have owned, I love it As an owner of a manual I recon the 991 will be an epic car... There is a load of subjective bs on here, as 'petrolheads' we should applaud Porsche for making a car like this and at this price point. For Mclaren to buy one to pull apart (in the name of competitor analysis) speaks volumes... If someone buys it and cruises down the kings road or spanks it round Monza - who gives a feck, just seeing these motors out there being enjoyed and not wrapped up in a bubble is what we want. Wonder if the Speciale and the fact they won't / will get tracked gets as much air time on the red forum - I would say not!

POST 34Original post

I can guarantee you'll see (at least) one attending some RMA days this year

Edited by mrdemon on Wednesday 4th June 09:07 There has been a change in overall car market with a shift towards automatics, sequential gearboxes, PDK etc. over the past decade just look at sales figures. I appreciate the GT3 is moving into new territories. As much as there will be a lot of people who still want a manual gearbox, you will see that there are even more out there that prefer the PDK systems which has opened up the market to a much wider audience. I loved the 997 GT3s but the stiff clutch was turn off as a daily driver and my money was down as soon as I heard the 991 would be with PDK gearbox. I intend to enjoy it both on the road and on the track. I’m still waiting for a new engine and haven’t been fortunate to drive my car but I really can’t wait!! Lets marvel at what Porsche has actually achieved, technology is a big part of our day to day life so let’s embrace it.

POST 36Original post

ro51ter said: Why is everyone talking the 991 gt3 down all the time? If you had been around here long enough you would recognise that actually : we have been here before. The last time that there was a significant paradigm shift in what a track 911 was, people were comparing the air cooled 964 and 993 RS models to the "kettle" - the 996 GT3. The driving experience was different, the operating costs a step higher and the new car was faster but most of the core fans of the old car didn't actually care and didn't actually want one regardless of how good it might be. With the 991 the situation is actually rather similar, but the 991GT3 is much, much further away in concept, experience and execution than the shift from air cooled to water cooled. I'll say it again - paradigm shift. The other way to look at it is that the 996/7GT3 to 991GT3 is actually very similar to the GT3 to Nissan GTR debate. Just as owners of earlier GT3s didn't want a GTR, so to do they not want a 991GT3. It isn't a matter of talking down the 991 GT3 so much as a case of the car being a product for different buyers than the majority of those who bought the older generations that wore the badge. A footnote is that this may well be what is fuelling the insane prices being commanded by the older cars - the realisation that neither Porsche nor anyone else is likely to make such a car ever again. There really won't be another one along next year this time, so people are panicking to buy in... Edited by DiscoColin on Wednesday 4th June 19:23

POST 37Original post

Hi Colin Thank you for a very sensible reply to my earlier question. The way you explained it based on 964 air cool to 996 water cooled cars makes a lot of sense. I guess the 991 gt3 will bring a new generation into gt3 ownership.

Edited by DiscoColin on Wednesday 4th June 19:23 I think that the main problem is they did not offer a manual version. The true test would have been to have done so and see which people opted for. Look at the e92 M3 and see how many sold were stick as opposed to 'auto'. I know some (all?) of the options would not have been available but who really cares if you can still drive stick and wish to drive a more involving car. Pip
