I was wondering if someone can provide insight on the oil leak on top of my 3.4L 9A1 Engine
I see the passenger side of the plenum wet and also top of the driver side of the engine where the oil cooler is wet as well.
I am not sure if the oil cooler is leaking as the whole thing is all covered, not just below it.

For the leak on top of the engine, do you guys think I need to replace #19 in the follow diagram? (oil cooler gasket) Is this something that leaks with time?

I am not sure how to explain the plenum being wet though, any ideas, insights and experiences are appreciated.
Thank you
No idea about those oil leaks specifically but just in case it helps, under warranty on my previous
987.2 Cayman
I had below replaced due to oil leaks. I know it was detectable from underneath due to oil on the underside plastic trim but have no idea what it looked like from the inside of the engine compartment from the top
Bank 2 chain tensioner seal
Cam solenoid o-ring
P/N 900-123-118-30 ALUM SEAL RING
P/N 999-707-446-50 RUBBER O-RING
Thank you for sharing, it helps!
I also just recently changed the aluminum seal ring for the tensioner as it was leaking. but this is in front of the engine and leaks to the bottom. I will check out the cam solenoid oring.
Hungry R, thank you for the post.
I noticed oil in the same places on my 2009
987.2 Cayman S
(94,000 miles). I am going to ask my technician for his thoughts and advice. I will share his comments and ask that you do the same when you come to a conclusion.
Sure Rick,
I will definitely report back once I come to a conclusion. FWIW, my car is a 09
Cayman S
PDK
with 45000 miles
fais, I tried to look up
P/N 999-707-446-50 RUBBER O-RING but couldnt really find online what the part is or where the part actually goes
You might also check the oil filler pipe to be sure it is not leaking. Good luck and keep us posted what you discover.
May be worth checking your oil cooler seals.
In my case I had a failed air oil separator causing a build up of oil in the intake manifold which then leaked over the top of the engine.
Hi Hungry
Did you solve the problem with your
cayman
? I have exactly the same problems like you and it would be great if you can tell us how you fixed it!
I have the same problem on a 2011
Cayman S
77K miles. Oil dripping from plenum on top of oil cooler. I found this because I happened to be installing a
IPD plenum
. When I pulled the factory plenum off it had about an ounce of oil pooled in the intake. A little searching here and ******** shows it's likely a failure of the Oil Separator (Air Oil Separator
AOS
) PN 9A1-107-042-02. The part is about $100 bucks so since I have it apart I'm going to replace it. Not sure I'll be able to tell if this is a fix since it seems like it may take awhile to manifest.
Hi Wrongway,
Thank you for your help! I see also "many" oil at my input tubes of the plenum which are coming from the
aos
. I will buy a new one and change it!
Hi Everyone,
its been a while I see oil on top of engine specially around oil cooler and, there is no rough idle or white smoke at startup just curious if that
AOS
replacement helped and fixed the issue in your case.
cheers
