Reported cause
It wasn't a bulb, it was the connector for the headlight not seating fully into the top of its receiving plug, as part of the clip which holds the plug socket in place had snapped.
Leading evidence: 'connector' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'connector' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check /doing next' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Check the connections on the bulb, sometimes the go green so need a little fetling up to get a better contact, new bulb for a few quid, change both sides while your at it ðŸ‘

I'm hopping if this is the case then just changing the front passenger sidelight (which I haven't tried yet as replacing the rear bulb didn't work ) will solve the problem and get it through the MOT.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi my car is due it's MOT next week and going over the car I noticed the front passenger sidelight and the passenger side rear fog light are not working.
All the other lights are working fine so I am guessing it's not an earthing problem.
I have tried changing fuse A4 and replaced rear bulb but unfortunately still not working.
So what should I be checking/doing next to get them working? Thanks as always for any advice it's much appreciated.
Are your bulbs standard? I know the upgraded LED ones will only work one way round (polarity). I've not 100% sure but most cars only have 1 rear fog lamp, euro specification, so probably not wired in.
Yes all standard bulbs...no fancy LED's.
Someone on Facebook said that UK cars came with bulbs/wiring etc for the rear passenger side fog lamps but they never actually worked which kind of makes sense as UK always just has Drivers side fog lamps (certainly on older cars).
I'm hopping if this is the case then just changing the front passenger sidelight (which I haven't tried yet as replacing the rear bulb didn't work ) will solve the problem and get it through the MOT.
The car will pass an mot without the n/s/r fog light working .. for this market then normally the contact in the bulb holder is missing so bulb or not it wont work .
Side light will be a bulb .
That was me.
It's definitely right. Google it. Tons of people saying the same. The live cable to the bulb holder isn't wired in at the other end. Mine passed the MOT with no advisories today.
It's not that unusual, my VW Transporter has a non live nearside fog light too.
My offside front sidelight was out too. It wasn't a bulb, it was the connector for the headlight not seating fully into the top of its receiving plug, as part of the clip which holds the plug socket in place had snapped.
I had to take the inner wheel arch liner off to make sure it seated properly. I've now glued the top of the socket where the retaining clip should be holding it in place and the connector on the headlight seats properly in the receiving socket now, without just pushing the top of the socket back.
Thanks as always for the detailed reply...fingers crossed it's just the front sidelight bulb but at least I know what to check if that doesn't solve it.
