Suggestion

If the sensor connector is corroded, it is still not too bad as each corner of the car has a stand alone wiring harness that can be replaced for about $120 each.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone else had an ABS failure? I am trying to find someone to repair my abs unit. Error codes say wheel speed sensor and return pump failure. Alternately does anyone know anyone who can reprogram a second hand part to recognise the VIN of my car? I have a second hand part in it now but nobody will / can reprogram the part to recognise the VIN of my car. Thanks in advance for any advice! (Located in the Bay Area)

POST 2Original post

Is it the pump or module that you have replaced? I wouldn't think the pump would have to be reprogrammed. I could be VERY wrong.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Kris Murphy - It is the ABS module, not the pun=mp as far as I know. The codes are what one shop with a PIWIS tool said were reported.... any ideas?

POST 5Original post

Are you sure it is the module? "Wheel sensor" is a pretty easy fix, pretty much plug and play. If the sensor connector is corroded, it is still not too bad as each corner of the car has a stand alone wiring harness that can be replaced for about $120 each. I have done this on my '98 996 as all four crumbled to the touch and caused the ABS and TC lights to come on (and speedo stopped working). As to the return pump, I have no idea on that one.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had the wheel sensors replaced previously. I also had the solder joints in the original unit re flowed. That worked for a while hit thenbthe issuebcame backit was intermittent then became a constant issue. I noticed that the ABS was coming on wet often for about a year before the first lights came on.
