Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, Just wanted to ask if any of you have had some issues with Gear change on the GT3. The short shift is usually pretty sweet, however over the past couple of weeks/drives I am finding it a little tougher to get into 3rd and then into 4th. In short, as I try to shift in there is resistance for a split second and then it goes in. Its fine into 1st and 2nd and then also from 4th to 5th. Key thing, there is a difference when I go from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. Sort of like a 2 stage action as a pose to 1. Little more resistant when cold, but not much, pretty much the same throughout the drive. Looking at forums there is talk of Pressure Plates etc, however if that was the issue wouldn't it happen in all gears? Car is a 2010 in Immaculate condition, Full Service History. Only 12,500 Kms. / 7,700 Miles I am going to take it in, the car is under warranty. So main thing is, I would feel reassured if it were under warranty before they "Drop my box" so to speak. Cheers Luke

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And yes, I like to "Give it some" when I drive it. But this is what these things were built for. I feel almost out of order poodling around in this. It loves to be caned.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

...and its the Gen 2 997. GT3 (Not RS)

POST 4Original post

New gearbox oil can work wonders, even on a low miles box. Worth a go for £75 or so imo.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks mate. Yeah, I will check and see if they did that on the service, which was only like 1,000 kms ago. Not sure if they would have at 12,000 kms, but I will have a look on the receipt.

POST 6Original post

If you blib the throttle between shifts, does it make a difference? Sounds like it could be a synchromesh issue. Take your car to Al Nabooda, they look after so many GT cars and I really can't complain about their service.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Will have a try tonight. I do heel and toe on the way down on pretty much every gear change, but rarely do on the way up through the gear. I do occassionaly out of habit mind you, but havent really since the issues. My warranty is with Alex Renner, as I have an Akrapovix Titanium full system on the car. However I am half considering putting the standard pipe back on and moving back to Al Naboodah when the year is up on the warranty. There are no over revs on the car, had this checked before I bought it. Cheers.

POST 8Original post

OK give it a try and let us know. FYI, if your car has been serviced by ARM, then pointless removing the Akropovic before going back to the agents as they (the agents) will not warranty a car that's been serviced outside the Porsche network.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ahh yes, thanks for this. Just checked and that is the case. My old porsche fell out of warranty but as it was still serviced with Porsche they would re cover it. When it's serviced elsewhere they wont. Still, ARM claims its Warranty covers everything that Porsche Warranty will. So question is, whats the underlying issue? Pressure plates? I read online that the Gen 2 3.8 Pressure plate from new weren't great and couldn't handle the extra power. As such, many fit the 4.0 RS litre pressure plate. Would the pressure plate issue cause something like 3rd and 4th only changing issues? Or would it be through the gears?

POST 10Original post

From my limited experience with gearboxes, PP and CP issues would affect most if not all gears, whereas synchros would be more specific. Best you speak to Alex or Al Nabooda though for an expert opinion. To answer your original question, my shifts are smooth, but under load at the track you need to be a tad deliberate from 2-3 to prevent a botched gearshift. Good luck and hopefully we see you at the track come October.

POST 11Original post

Before I replaced my clutch and flywheel on my 2010 GT3 I noticed that it was starting to require more effort to push it out of 4th and 6th. Once the above parts were replaced it fixed the problem. Upon reading about it further others have listed the same symptoms and have fixed it in the same manner. It seems that the pressure plate loses its strength and doesn't give quite enough clearance.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks mate. Did you you just replace clutch or add the Pressure plate too? Also, where did you get the parts? Porsche or external supplier? Seems strange I would need a new clutch at just 12,000 kms though eh?
