I later found it is due to the leveler in the gear shifter didn't go down completely to touch the solenoid so that computer cannot detect the gear is in "P" position.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I would like to share the experience for people suffering key stuck in the ignition after turning off the engine. The computer showed "Move Selector lever to P". I later found it is due to the leveler in the gear shifter didn't go down completely to touch the solenoid so that computer cannot detect the gear is in "P" position. What you need to do to resolve this problem is spray W40 lubricant at 2 places. One is around leveler pin and one at piston-like parts underneath the leveler. I reckon these 2 parts got too dry after years of driving. You need to take the center console off first. You don't have to take down the whole gear shifter assembly afterwards. I did take it down this time just to examine what happened in detail as had no experience before. Hope this helps you. Jack
