Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

I like the option to be able to view the rear camera at other times (using an Android app included with my head unit), so I power the camera via a wire tapped from the same switched fuse that turns on the headunit.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I am looking for a rear switched 12 volt source to tap into for a reverse camera. My instructions indicate one wire to the reverse camera, another to a switched 12 volt source. Any guidance would be appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Correction. The instructions are one wire to the back up lights another wire to a switched 12 volt source. I think this is to allow the camera to operate when not in reverse.

POST 3Original post

The backup light +12VDC tap is useful to trigger a head unit to switch the display to the camera input. If you only ever wish to utilize the rear camera while backing, you can also use this tap to power the camera. I like the option to be able to view the rear camera at other times (using an Android app included with my head unit), so I power the camera via a wire tapped from the same switched fuse that turns on the headunit. It almost sounded like you were saying to power the camera via both backup and switched +12Vdc sources, which would actually bridge the two circuits and might cause problems. I think I've seen cars driving with backup light illuminated due to this mistake.
