Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 911 i put a deposit down for went tits up today. Any thoughts on this? I can't find any info on the carrera 2 TT S. He has owned it for 3 years and it's due a service. So good deal has been done. Also all discs, pads and tyres changed 4 months ago. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160328699445&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123

POST 2Original post

Sorry to hear about fall through, how does that work if you had a deposit on it? You say a new deal has already been done on this new one, what opinion are you seeking? 996.2 exhaust and rear bumper (or "PU") and 997 model script are not 1999 C2. There was no 996 Carrera 2S (the "S" would have designated a widebody, if it existed). Oddly, a 997 "S" derivative means bigger engine (3.8 vs 3.6), only 4WD 997 are widebody (GT2 excepted) A "Tiptronic S" simply means it has steering wheel gear change buttons (plus newer non-Mercedes sourced gear box, ZF auto I think) By the way, just for future reference, TT normally refers to Twin Turbo, not Tip(tronic).

POST 3Original post

What do you mean the original one you put a deposit down on went "tits up"? Wrt the new one, exactly as the above, except the ZF Auto boxes were on the earlier 98 models and the Merecedes were on the later Tip "S" models and Turbo (TT=twin turbo). The correct name for this car is Carrera 2 Tiptronic S. Couple of points: 1. I don't recognise the later independent stamps in the log book. Porchetech have a website that looks reasonable enough, but I've never heard from anyone using this garage and I don't know the other garage either. 2. You're paying a premium for a convertable this time of year, but 15k seems a very reasonable price....depending on what needs doing. 3. Major service mght need spark plugs, fluids etc, in which case you're looking at a bill close to or over £1000. 4. Get a PPI done it to give you an indication of what's what and likely immediate bills. 5. What state are the tyres in? What type and how much tread? 6. The interior colour (terocotta - spelling!) will have a negative impact on the price of the car 7. It will be a 3.4 engine, not a 3.6, as it's pre-facelift. 8. 4 previous owners doesn't seem too bad 9. Where did previous owner buy the car from? Cheers.

POST 4Original post

Personally i would give the interior a wide birth, it is harder to move when you come to re-sale. Whilst it seems to have resonable service history can this be backed up with docs? You might also find remote start invalidates some insurance policys for theft. Personally i do not like cars who's owners badge there car up as somthing else makes me think they could be whishing for more and gving it a good thrashing. Buying cars is a personal choice, if you love the colours, get a i ppi done and take it from there cheers

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It was a wreck so avoid it. The interior was very nice but the exterior, well i have seen Ford Orions in better nick. Not having much luck finding a 911. Never had this problem with cars (change 4 times per year) so maybe it's a sign.
