Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I received my OEM short shifter today which I plan to install myself. UPS left the box outside in the hot florida sun (92 deg F today). Box was upside down so it looks like the white ( lithium ?) grease that packs the ball joint at the bottom of the shifter melted and dripped out (since it was upside down). I would like to repack the joint. Any advice on what type of lubrication should be used on this type of metal/plastic joint?

POST 2Original post

White lithium grease will work fine. I have used that stuff as engine assembly lube. It stays forever.

POST 3Original post

I would also use white lithium grease. One thing you do want is one that works in a wide range of temps. I actually like to use lithium grease designed for snowmobiles.....it's just fine for high temps, but does a great job at very low temps also. You don't want the grease to thicken up and cause poor shifting when cold.

POST 4Original post

Thanks. That's what I used. Shifter is now installed and I'm very happy with the results!

POST 5Original post

Those UPS guys really pissed people off with stuts like this.
