Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Sometimes they use OEM parts so they can cut costs.

Good indies will use official parts especially if you ask them to.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi there, Ive just joined the family after buying a 2004 Polar Silver 996 C4S good spec PCM2, PSE....
The car came with a official warranty which was handy when the 'check engine' light came on. According to my local OPC it needed a new oxygen sensor (covered by warranty), I was also told I needed new front brake pads and discs! Cost? £850! Whilst they fitted the sensor I phoned some indies for a price on the brakes, was quoted between £550 and £620 fitted.
I approached the OPC service desk with the indies prices and was told that the indies do not use Porsche official parts? They said this could prove to be a problem when I renew my warranty in July 2009. However they offered to discount their original quote by £100, so I gave them the go ahead.
I always thought indies used official parts? Is my assumption wrong?
amr79, welcome to the site.
Good indies will use official parts especially if you ask them to. I believe the OPC in question has been spinning you a yarn I'm afraid.

Hi there,
Couple of things : indies use Porsche parts if you request them to. Sometimes they use OEM parts so they can cut costs. In reality pretty much the same, ie, clutches are made from SACHS.... indy will buy the part directly from SACHS or can buy from Porsche wich is a SACHS clutch but within a Porsche box.. Best check with the indy beforehand. I do.
Second thing and if you see a few threads of mine lately, OPCs are low on works and willing to discount.
You will never reach indy prices but you will get close.
All my work lately has been done on OPC but after barting and I always got very close to indy prices : tyres, clutch, suspension. Saved fortunes.
Just shop around first in indys for prices and then ask them to discount because indy X does price Y.
Just use a good indy as a lever otherwise they can tell you stories like that..
Last but not least I got my control arms replaced in a OPC for a price that both indys called me crazy and did not believed me until I show them the invoice .... they said that couldnt match that price otherwise they would be doing a loss.
Credit crunch malarky.. just use it for you not against you.
