Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cut open oil filter (as I always do when changing) and found just a few small pieces. The first pic shows all that was taken out of pleats after cutting open. My question is what you think the larger (still small) piece of orange color is. It has a hard resin look and feel to it. Chain pad? None of the pieces were Ferromagnetic. Look forward to your opinions.

Based on reading other threads I thought that it may be pads although the small pieces appeared much shinier and smooth than others I've seen on other threads. Its a 2004 so MkII I believe.

POST 5Original post

Yes pads , it will be vario pads probably , can be done just by removing valve covers and cams , head stays on, might be hard without dropping the engine though!

POST 6Original post

looks like a digital micrometer , wonder how it got in there

I accidentally dropped them in there when doing my IMS, was so happy they did not get chewed up by the chains.
