Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Also, is it necessary to replace the sensors at the same time I replace the pads?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I'm new to this forum, and I haven't been able to find in looking through the forums an answer to my question so I'm hoping you guys can help. I have a 2007 Base model Cayman with 24k miles on it, and 2 track days. My brake pad sensor came on indicating that I need to replace the pads. I'm uncertain if the rotors are in bad shape and in need of replacing or not. Does anyone know what the minimum thickness is for them, from what I understand its supposed to be stamped on the rotor itself, but I cannot locate it. Also, is it necessary to replace the sensors at the same time I replace the pads?

POST 2Original post

Here is the info for minimum thickness; courtesy of webbie I've also heard members here say if there are not little cracks in between the holes in the rotors, they have life left. I'll be using the minimum thickness method. As for the sensors, I believe when the light goes on, they are toast and need to be replaced. Check out Suncoast for replacement parts.

POST 3Original post

Rotor thickness is 28mm front/24mm rear. The specs allow for 2mm of wear before replacement is necessary. You should also look to see if there are cracks forming around the cross-drilled holes - a few small cracks around the holes are ok, but if there are any cracks that connect the holes, the rotors are finished. The new thickness of the rotors should be stamped on them, not the minimum thickness. You can also measure the wear on a rotor by measuring the "lip" that's left on the outside circumference from the wear from the pads. If the senors have come on, then you need new ones - the way they work is they come into contact with the rotor, so if that happens, they're finished and you need new ones. brad
