Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, Just after some advice re upgrading the headlights with either 100W bulbs or HID conversion, so far my thoughts: 100W - Cheap, easy - not road legal, has anyone had any problems? - What is the performance increase like over standard 55W HIDs - bit more cash - not sure how hard all the different kits are to fit, ideally would like a simple to fit kit. - Are there kits that do main / dipped beam i.e all 4 H7's? - any recommendations for kits and colour temp etc. Thanks for any advice! :thumb:

POST 2Original post

I had 100 watt bulbs in the driving lights of an Audi. The heat did for the wiring and the plastic lenses unless you drove very quickly indeed... I put HIDs on my 964, then the 993 and finally my GT3. The 964 kit used a sliding barrier for high/dip beams and was reasonably succesful. I only did the dip beams on the 993 but that made a huge difference and decent bulbs in the high beam reflectors balanced it up nicely. The GT3 has the same setup but using a higher wattage than the previous kits and is stunningly bright to the point that the high beams are almost academic. I have got the lowest temperature bulbs in the GT3 - about 4850K - as I thought the higher temperatures - 6000K on the 993 - were too blue to drive behind. Higher than that and you risk getting nicked as well as losing some of the benefits of the greater distance etc. I got every kit from HIDS4U and they all fitted perfectly and worked straight out of the box. I certainly wouldn't bother with 100 watt bulbs and if you have plastic lenses, neither should you.

Cheers rlw :thumb: I'll take a look at the HIDS4U website, probably give the 100watts a miss!
