I have 08 cayman. I bought it used with 1035 miles on it. It was delivered to the 1st owner on 1/2/08 and delivered to me by MB dealership on 6/13/08. I now have 7200 miles and it tells me service is due in 2 days. I called the local porsche dealership and they said I wasn't due until 13,000 miles. I asked why the computer said 2 days and he said it wasn't reset at the first service by whoever did that service. I didn't think there was a service to be done prior to 12,000 miles from reading the manual. He said there is a 3000 mile inspection and it should have been reset then. I owned the car at 3000 miles and didn't know about this service, he said no big deal just bring in the car at either 1 yr or 13,000 miles. I don't know where these numbers come from. I thought it analyzed my oil quality like my Acura to determine when service is due. Does it only count miles to determine when service is due? Any info, advice appreciated. P.S. I searched the forums and faq's but only found schedule posted that said 1st oil change at 20,000 miles(not km).
The 2006 car manual states 20,000 milesor 2 years. The 2008, and I think 2007, states 1 year, or 12, or 13,000 miles. It is the same car same engine. There are those who say this is a concesion to the dealers, I think it is cheap insurance. I do my own service, and I change my oil every 5000 miles but I track my car.
I have seen threads with oil analyses, and it appears 10,000 miles for regular use is plenty adequate. Stick to the recomended weight Mobil oil. I was told by a knowledgable person that particular weight (0w 40)have some additional wear additives that other weights no longer have. If it was my car I would go ahead and change it now, and every 10,000 miles thereafter, or a year, provided you do not track the car.

I have an 07, and in August of 2008 it said "service now". I think this is because it was built in summer 2006 (I bought it in June 2007) and the interval is 2 years/20K miles. I have never heard of reminders for other than minor service, so I would guess yours has hit 12 months since it was built. I had to go back to the shop (independent) to clear the warning; apparently only the fancy P-wiz official and $$$$ porsche tool can reset these properly and durametrics can clear it when it starts nagging.
Thanks for the info guys. I noticed on my maintenance book a dealer filled it out as being delivery inspected in september of 2007.
