Yep, used a small pair of channel locks to put a little more force on the grey tab than my fingers were capable of. Did the trick.

What ended up working for me was I used a big pair of channel locks to squeeze it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I'm trying to install the Sprint Booster in my '09 Cayman . I can't for life of me figure out how to separate this connector. The grey tab can be pushed downward, but I don't know where to go from there. The two halves aren't pulling apart (not easily, anyway). I know this is a familiar install, so I'm hoping someone has some recollection of this key part of the puzzle. Thank you.

POST 2Original post

This is from memory, but yeah, I'm pretty sure you need to push the gray piece down. It was not easy for me. What ended up working for me was I used a big pair of channel locks to squeeze it. One jaw on the tab, the other on the black plastic lip an inch or two below the tab in your picture. Careful not to break anything.

POST 3Original post

Yeah, I thought about such a solution, but... persistence paid off and I got the connector off without using tools. I wish I could tell others who find this post in the future exactly what I did, but I can't exactly. The connector just suddenly came loose. What I can say is this: I studied the connector on the Sprint Booster that corresponds with what's on the car. The Booster has a red tab that is the analog to the grey tab on the car's connector. The red tab locks the connector in place by being pushed down; the allows the end of the tab to grab onto a small, molded nub on the black portion of the connector. It just clicks into place. The red connector is freed by pushing it upwards with a little bit of force applied by a flathead screwdriver inserted into what appears to be a slot in the top of the tab. If you have strong fingers and are immune to pain, you don't even need a screwdriver. And you don't even need to play with this when you fit the connectors together--just to take it apart and see what makes it tick. The red tab is a separate piece from the rest of the Booster connector. So pop that red tab out. Study it. Compare it to the other side of the Booster connector to see how one side would fit into the other (if the Booster unit was long enough you could fit on end into the other to see how it will work on the car's connector, but it's not--you have to use your imagination. Wrap your mind around how these connectors fit together, then take what you've learned and apply it to the grey-tabbed connector on the car's pedal unit. It's not an exact match in how the red vs. grey tabs move (the grey has a springiness to it, the red does not), but the way they lock into place by grabbing onto that small, molded nub is the same. Once you get this, you can fidget around with the connector on the car in a more focused way--you won't be spinning your wheels pushing or pulling or prying on the wrong parts. It took me about two hours of persistence and a twisted spine to get this to happen. It didn't come easy. Finally, know this: there is no force involved here. There is not any special leverage required. It's kind of zen in a way: the solution will present itself when the student is ready. Good luck!

Glad you figured it out. My zen was to hit it with a big honkin' wrench
