Hello all. New to the Porsche world. I have searched and searched all forums and read bits an piece but knothing really to my problem. I have tried different things and nothing seems to work.
I have a 2012 Cayman S with Nav and PCM 3. In my arm rest is the Aux, USB, and iPod port. I have the OEM Porsche cable that plugs into the iPod and USB ports. I plug the cord into both the USB and iPod and then the 30 pin connector into my iPod. I pod says connected and charging. But when I go into source it only shows Am Fm Sat and disc. No Aux or iPod.
I go to Disc with disc in or no disc and still no Aux or iPod.
No music playing. I read somewhere to go into PCM's sub setting to enable or disable iPod??? Don't know how to do this.
When I hook up my iPhone 5 with the same cord and adapt the 30 pin to the lightening adaptor for the iPhone 5, same results. Connected but no music playing.
Phone works as it should with Bluetooth to send and receive calls but no music. I know it won't play music through BT. That I understand but why can't I get either phone or iPod to play music with the OEM Porsche cable.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
There should be an option tab when you select Disc, where you can enable AUX etc. You could check that first. Maybe a stupid question, but have you started to play music i.e pressed play on the ipod then try the source selection? I didn’t ”see” the source either until I actually pressed play on spotify iirc. Also, for the iphone, is the adapter original? Non-original apple cables and adapters do not allow for music - only charging and data.
Hello hallonz. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I have tried going to the disc options tab. But I don't see an Enable disable section for AUX or iPod.
Yes I did have the music playing on both iPod and iPhone 5 at the time.
All my cables and adaptors are OEM Apple products as is my Porsche Y USB iPod interface cable.
So say I have to take it into Porsche and have the PCM updated and only Porsche can do the updates?? Is this true?
Hello,
I haven't been on this forum for awhile. I have the Y cable with the USB port for power and the round pin for Aux (or iPod) under the source button on my nav unit.

If the AUX option is missing, then:
1. The round pin cable is not working and thus doesn't recognize the iPod.
2a. Newer iPods or devices aren't guaranteed to work. See link above.
2b. There is a settings issue in the PCM.
3. The PCM is messed up. Hopefully not.
I just bought a Bluetooth 30 pin receiver from Amazon. So I just sync my Android phone and choose from it. I prefer streaming from Spotify and Soundcloud.
Thank you for the reply.
It must be 2b. or 3.? My Porsche Y cable has never been used by the original owner. All my devises or at least 5 years old.
How can you resolve settings issues on PCM?
So I had a chance to read the link above which is the same in my manual page 39. Did exactly what they say with going to disc, options, but nowhere is there anything that says,SET DISC/AUX. The picture on bottom right of screen shows iPod with a red line through it yet my iPod itself says connected. Tried with iPod playing and not playing. CD is playing. in the source area still only AM FM SAT and DISC. No AUX USB or iPod.
Maybe it isn't coded properly? The "Universal Multimedia Interface," which I believe is the ports in the armrest, is an option and probably needs to be properly coded in addition to having the hardware present.
I think you are right gubi. I went to the build sheet on my car and it says I have the infotainment pkg. lists 235 watt 9 speaker system Bose high end sound pkg. With all that I better be able to listen to music from my iPod??
