Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Dom, Did you ever get that motec upgrade in the end? If so, what power are you pushing out now then? I've seen a 964 RS with a 3.8 conversion too. Is this reccommended at all? More in keeping with it's character than the supercharger options out there, but is it sacriledge to mess with the beast? Not sure who converted it though. Also, can you insure a 964 RS on cheap classic insurance now? Might be good to pay under a grand, rather than 2k plus for a regular policy. Shirleys has one of those RS tourings in with the gay boy leccy bits. Not the ultimate spec, but nice colour and condition. Price looks very tempting too, especially as it's one of only 47 rhd. I quite fancy getting a rare and exiting 911, without too much to go pete tong, especially one under 40k and sod all depreciation - bargain! Makes the gt3's look bloody pricey for similar fun.

POST 2Original post

Mine is insured on a classic car insurance. Usually this kicks in after around 10 years.

POST 3Original post

Long time an' all.... The T2 has been on steroids and now packs a 380BHP/600NM punch. More work in the pipeline, but you'll have to wait for exact details....

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

UV, 600Nm - that's more like it. The one thing I always thought your car needed was a bit more overtaking grunt. Must be a bit of a handful now though! Ooo, young man!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Peter, Do you reckon the classic policy saves you a fair amount of cash then? So 10 years is the entry requirement then. Do you also have to do limited milage to qualify? I'm planning on spanking it's ass everyday, so will probably rack up at least 10k miles annually. Not sure what I'm going to go for yet anyhow - just checking it all out now. Ages ago I was quoted 1300 on a new carrera. I guess (hope) a 964RS rhd on classic will be well under 1k, but a 993tt could be well over 2 or 2.5k. The difference may well look academic anyhow when looking at the running costs between a 4x4 turbo nutter and simple N/A 2wd RS.

POST 6Original post

Hi mate Just about getting to grips with the RS, but spun it the other day in the wet. Luckily it was an extremely minor incident, but enough to scare me and so a roll cage and more driver trianing are both on order The 964RS or 993RS are the ones to go for. Don't touch a touring though, they are almost as heavy as the standard cars. Utter shite idea if you ask me. There are a ton of nice RSs for sale at the moment, Ninemeister and peter964rs both know concourse cars up for grabs. You will not be disappointed. With Motec, you will match UV's new bhp per tonne. I will do engine work next spring. 3.8 isn't so fantastic apparently, just adds torque not power. Ninemeister reckons you can tune a 3.6 to 360bhp anyway, all normally aspirated. If I can stretch to Motec, 320bhp for about 4k, I will do. Otherwise, I may just try and get it into the higher 200s with a throttle body conversion, remap etc and try and get to grips with what it already has Cheers Domster

POST 7Original post

And what an experience it was too! We must find an airfield so I can return the Red Baron's favour in my own Red machine. Very glad to hear all the effects were minor, Dom...and can I add a quick thanks for your excellent efforts on BTaP....you should be proud. You earned your Pistonhead award.

POST 8Original post

Dom, i've been on the phone to G-Force again. You may find the goal post are about to be moved once again On a serious note, do people fancy getting together to book an airfield for a day. Preferable a long one. All this BHP is placing my license at serious risk.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dom, sounds like your giving it some in there! Was that a quiet sunday drive to fetch the paper then? What chance is there of balancing a nice long tail out drift, in the dry, without spinning? Are you getting a half cage to save weight? UV, come on - give me a hint...your getting an industrial sized turbo charger strapped on aren't you. I've seen an T2 advertised before with 530 ponies I recall. I guess you'd have to book an appointment for the turbo boost to come on, and be prepared to have your spine crushed when it finally kicks in. Sounds like fun!

POST 10Original post

Dom, there's always the possibility of going for the ninemeister supercharger kit... 5k buys you lots of power and torque. I'm thinking about it myself www.VerySideways.com

POST 11Original post

No more boost, more fundamental than that....

POST 14Original post

Hi guys I am in discussion re airfield day with some fellow PHers, up in Staffs, v good value. Will discuss more next week when not on hols. Drifting 964RS in dry is possible, but never managed it for long. Power oversteer is more than possible though. REgarding wet tailslides... hmmm, mine went on longer than I wanted It made Don a bit dizzy! I will see if I can do one under controlled conditions, and get more than half a turn of lock on. Went soooo quickly it was a done deal. Eek. Look forward to seeing UV getting more power from the beast. Must be the coke iunduction kit

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dom, If the 320bhp motec conversion comes in at 4k, how much does the full 360bhp NA conversion cost? Knowing the usual diminishing returns I guess it'll be double the 4k conversion. Did you look into fitting any weight saving carbon in the end, like the bonnet, engine cover etc? Pricey?

POST 16Original post

Ninemeister will have a good idea re prices, but yeah, it is law of diminishing doing up an n/a engine. I don't like supercharging route as apparently kills the crisp, high-end character of the revvy RS engine. I reckon you can go silly and lose another 60-100kgs off a lightweight spec 964RS, but it gets a bit silly. You will be whipping out stereo, carpets, headlining, sunvisors etc. for the sake of a few k's. Will it be worth it? Kevlar doors, mirror, bonnet and boot are all possible, but at what cost... Not sure it is worth it unless mad about tracking it. The RS is only just about road usable as it is. Cheers Dom

"whipping out stereo, carpets, headlining, sunvisors etc. for the sake of a few k's. Will it be worth it? Kevlar doors, mirror, bonnet and boot are all possible, but at what cost... Not sure it is worth it unless mad about tracking it." You'd be better off investing in some driver training.....

POST 18Original post

Exactly. It does get a bit stupid. Might as well get the car to a level you are happy with, then learn to use it properly. The standard RS is enough for most mortals - it will take me a few more thousand miles to get half-close to mastering it. >> Edited by domster on Monday 11th November 10:05

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guy's, just returned after a while away from PH land - been busy, unlike you lazy lot. How's it all going? I'll be moving out of london in the spring, so car shopping is on my mind once again... Domster, are you still trying to keep up with the turbo boys in your RS? Is it still in one piece with you at the helm? Also, have you invested in any ear plugs?! UV, still driving that slow-ass girlie T2? Feeling that itch to change for anything else yet? I remember you had a thing for those awsome 355's. Turbofree, how's the daddy 993tt running? Anything majorly expensive or irritating happen yet? Derestrictor, I assume you've upgraded to at least 600 ponies by now. Still looking for more poke too, I hope.
