Since the clutch has been changed and gearbox oil changed, really only happened couple of times and it doesnt "jump out" of gear anymore.

He might say the problem is different on the TT but he is probably the only person in the UK who fixes gearboxes and has seen the various problems.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there, My TT seems to have a bit of play when it comes to the 2nd gear ... if I engage it too hard or bit more to the left that it should, it makes a horrible crunching noise... Usually happens when the car is cold and wasnt that often ( few times only )... Since the clutch has been changed and gearbox oil changed, really only happened couple of times and it doesnt "jump out" of gear anymore. Should I be worried ? Normal behaviour ? Ea$y to fix? Just had a bill of clutch + flywheel + loads of bits last month and this month bill is going to be wishbones + tyres + center gravity geo alignment + 4 wheel refurb at lepsons + odd bit at porscheshop for the interior... Cheers

POST 2Original post

Not many TT owners reponding here then! :hand: Is normal or is it not!

POST 3Original post

I occasionally get a crunch between 1st and 2nd on my other car (Golf) which I suspect is the synchromesh :dont know: can't see it be cheap to repair if it is

POST 4Original post

I have not got a TT, but you say it happens when its cold right. No problem when its hot I assume. If that is the case it sounds like the sychromesh is a bit slow in "gripping" when cold, and is not an major looming problem. When my 997 GT3 box is cold moving from 2-3 and 3-2 is very tough and this is a synchro problem but the car has only 9000 miles on the clock. Just take your changes easily when cold. Regards Big Bob :bye:

POST 5Original post

Mine does exactly the same very occasionally going into second when cold. I have discussed this with Mike at Sports and Classic in Knutsford, North West. He is fully aware of this and also has fixed many 'jumping out of second' gearboxes. Give him a call he is a friendly, no hard sales push, honest chap. As far as I'm aware if it doesn't get worse and doesn't jump out of gear then live with it. It may get worse, it may not. Sports and Classic are here www.sportsandclassic.com Tel: 01565 621311 mobile: 07720 843 736 Say you've been recommended to call by Ian with the yellow 996. He's driven mine recently which has exactly the same as yours. He'll remember talking about it to me. He might say the problem is different on the TT but he is probably the only person in the UK who fixes gearboxes and has seen the various problems.

POST 6Original post

Mine does not do it. Sounds like you are changing faster than the synchro's can keep up, they will move slower when the oil is cold & thick too I would think. Have you got a SSK installed?
